High Idle and the SMARTY
Saw a question about enabling the high idle feature within the SMARTY software. Asked the folks at MADS and got this back:
I confirm that the high idle feature is automatically enabled in all the CaTCHER levels of Smarty S67. In automatic trucks the high idle can be controlled by the cruise control. In the manual trucks, the Dodge kit for high idle has to be installed in order to use it. Stefano Negrini - MADS Now my question is what is the kit he is talking about. Thanks, Hal

You have to install a clutch switch. The clutch switch tells the computer whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged. It's basically a safety. Unless somebody jumps in with a link you'll have to search for the info on the part numbers and install. There's allot of confusing info on this so don't be in a hurry to buy parts until you sort out the particulars.

What are the benefits of having a high idle?

In the summer it will help your alternator keep up with the demand from idling with the air conditioning on and help the air work a tad better. In the winter it will help keep things warmed up a little also.

Hi Idle mod
I have read (maybe on this forum) about grounding a wire that is in main harness near the clutch pedal that allows the hi idle to work. This wire must be the one that connects to clutch switch. The dealer install of the switch plus parts was about $300 when I asked about it at dealership.

There are many posts on this in the 5.9 section. You do not have to have use the clutch switch (which by the way is expensive). On my 04.5 I used Cummins part number 3164263, costs $12.50, and its simply a wire with a male metal pin at the end which you plug into the #22 slot/port of your ECM. Put a ring terminal on the other end of the wire and ground it (use the bolt right next to the ECM) The ECM is located on the drivers side of the engine. Total time is about 30mins including coffee/beer. Load up your Smarty or go to the dealer and have him enable the PTO high idle feature. If someone needs more PM me and I will pass along info on a good "how to post" that is on another cummins diesel forum...........

The process to circumvent the use of the MOPAR clutch switch is different on the 6.7L trucks than it is on the 5.9L 3rd gens. All you need to do on the 6.7L/G56 trucks is ground one particular wire under the dash within the area of the 100-pin connector. Here is a picture of where it was on mine:
