Help w/ PSD

Need to know where I can go to get some advise on a PSD '95. Friend has one that the dealer has diagnosed the high pressure fuel pump going out and the motor oil pump. Don't quite understand the oil pump thing. Dealer says that the oil pump is what makes the injectors open?????? Also and exhaust sensor is bad. $3800.00 in damage Told him we need to get a Cummins and stuff in there ;D ;D
Yep. The engine oil pressure makes the injectors work. Make sure that all of the low pressue fuel lines are OK. Some of the lines are prone to chafe on the cylinder head...look on the left side of the engine from the front, just behind that little plastic (I think) cowl.
Good luck.

Re:Help w/ PSD

Yeah. The PSD uses HEUI's (Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injectors) It also acts pretty much as a fail safe design that if you lose oil pressure your injectors stop firing and the engine dies since they're oil operated. There's a high pressure oil pump that pumps oil to the solenoids that open and close to actuate the injectors. Kind of like a "hydraulic pushrod." If the pump is starting to crap out then the engine shouldn't run at all. There's a sensor to reads how much oil pressure there is in a oil line to make sure there's enough PSI to operate the injector. But problems do very. $3,800.00 sounds a bit steep to me though to have it fixed. JM2C
