Where have all the young voters gone?

The tale of the tape is in the turnout.

In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie pulled out a surprisingly comfortable victory over a better-financed incumbent. In Virginia, Republican Bob McDonnell won an impressive victory touting what he could do to create more jobs.

In both cases, the key to victory was in who showed up. Put another way, the young people who fueled Barack Obama's historic presidential victory last year stayed home.

In New Jersey in 2008, the under-30 vote made up 22% of the electorate. One year later, the tally dropped to 8%.

And in Virginia, the under-30s made up 10% of this year's election, down from 21% when Obama was at the top of the ticket.

All of which may be another way of saying that Obama had enough charisma to overcome the historic apathy of the youth vote.

The issue for Democrats this morning: how to get the vote folks back before the 2010 elections.

I tell ya where they went. during bho's campaign he was, and still is a silver tongued devil, and the young crowd wanted to be a part of electing the nations first black president (although he is only 1/4 black). now that it is all over, they are back to their video games and concentrating on themselves.

I have talked to a few people that were first time voters (mostly young people) that did vote for nobama AKA BO BO and they wanted to be a part of history! I sure wish more people would have been INFORMED voters and not history makers. I hope they regret the vote they cast now.

They got drunk on BO BO koolaid and most o them are so highly indoctrinated they don't even know what they were really a part of. They were part of history alright, but I would venture to guess that they will never admit to it in the coming years. Reality can be a pretty hard slap in the face!!!!

I put my video games down yesterday afternoon to go and vote McDonnell/Bolling/Cuccinelli...

Just messin with ya there, Chris...my "video games" being future tools for the warfighting ground-pounders out there in harm's way and you best believe I let the rest of my folks in uniform leave to cast their votes yesterday early afternoon too...no matter WHO they planned on voting for.

As for the rest of the younger folks out there who failed to vote, I chalked it up to this: As stated above, those morons wanted to be part of "history". Heard it I don't know how many times. Well, now that they have made "history" and still can't find work...I wonder how happy they are with their decision?

53s are BEASTS! I watched one blow one of our landing signalmen off the flight deck of our ship once. It was scary as hell, but he ended up fine. Just a couple bruises from falling 40ft.

The young voter were low on koolaid so they went to college to fill there cup back up and there for missing this round of voting. The teaching system starts them on koolaid at the earliest possible age. Glad my momma would not let me drink that crap. It tastes good but has bad side effects

Truth of the matter is when these young folks grow older and have their own young (which is really scary to think of right now) they will not mention who they voted for when asked about the failing economy and the dbag that ruined it during the 44th term.

I have family up there. They are actually quite po'd about it because apparently the plan funds getting the buildings for gambling BUILT, but doesn't cover FILLING them with the gambling equipment and personnel...so Ohio is looking at possibly having 4-5 HUGE buildings built that may end up sitting there EMPTY!?!

Some of these young folks don't wait to grow up to have babies.. I call it babies having babies this in turn creates a dependency on some type of support system, It is either their parents or the welfare system..

Maybe that's why they voted for BO BO!! Their parents don't have any money anymore, and BO BO will take care of everything - "Now I don't have to worry about making my mortgage payment, or putting gas in my car. If I support Obama he will take care of me."
