Fuel Tank Sending Unit

My 02 has gotten in the habit of running out of fuel with just over 1/4 of a tank and I have also been having problems with the fuel pump so I decided to install a heavy duty gear rotor pump and a new fuel tank sending unit. I called dodge and they told me they only sell it with the pump and it is $432.00. I explained to the parts guy that I only wanted to have the sending unit and I didn't want to pay $400 plus for just a sending unit. Does anybody here have just the sending unit less the pump or know how I can fix mine.Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I just fill up when I hit 400 miles. It's a lot cheaper and easier than dropping the tank lol.

Well I bought a new vulcan performance draw straw and have to pull the bed to install that and the aftermarket pump so i'm going to do it any way. I also pull a trailer and that changes your milage depending how heavy a load your pulling.

On the 12 valve the sending unit only is Dodge p/n 4797738, $54
Far as I know the same sender was used on all years.
You can also buy a reman entire tank module from the dealer for $125.

Thanks, found a place called tristarradiator online that rebuilds sending units and they have parts including the variable resisters by themselves. I e-mailed them and if they have the one for my truck at a resonable price I am going to try that. I'll let yall know how it goes. I'm sure mine is'nt the only one doing this.

hope you got the draw straw that replaces the bung on the sending unit and not the one that you make holes for, etc.
The straight tube one will let you run out at 1/4 tank since theres no baffling and air gets in.
The other type that replaces the bung on top is great, but I used a section of hose to the stock pick-up instead of the whole straw. The bottom of the picup unit is a float and a couple valves and it might not work well with just a straw in the bottom of the sender.

I havent pulled it apart yet since I have'nt got all my parts. The kit I bought from vulcan though has the bung that looks like it goes in a grommet and it came with a hard tube and a hose. I figured I would see how I was going to put it together once I had it apart. Still trying to figure out how I am going to fix my sending unit. So far no dice.
