Fluidamper install now no charge.

I was working on my dads 92w250. Installed a fluidamper and then his battery died. I was corroded and old so we figured it just finally gave out.. It was installed in 2002. I changed the battery but then noticed that the volt meter was only reading 10v or so... (on the gauge) I removed the Alt and took it in to be tested at the local parts store. was informed that it failed all three attempts. so next i installed a new alt. still reading same. Im totally ignorant to electrical issues. PLEASE HELP!!! I did double check the wiring connections on the CPS jumper and the air gap is set at .050.

not sure how to check actual output from the alt. my tester shows 12.3 v at battery and 12.5 from the bigger insulated nut on the alt to the alt body. probably not correct test locations but i dont know any better

You do have the right damper don't you?

For street use the 92 to at least 98 units must have the slots for the sensor to work right.

Sounds crazy, but sometimes the obvious is missed.

With the engine running you should see closer to 14V on the big nut at the back of the alt, otherwise it is not charging properly.

just found the "not charging" thread in the sticky. it doesnt seem to be blowing cold AC. so it sounds like maybe it is the CPS?? i double checked the connections and the air gap so im at a loss. could a relay have been damaged due to me working on it?

Probably not a relay, I always just fold up a business card and use it for my space, I think it is less than .050, but always works.

Another dumb question, when I was looking to see if all Fluidampers had the slots, the kit for the early ones had a relocation kit with wiring, did you by chance have to use that kit? Is it possible the wiring isn't right?

I don't have a 92/93 FSM, so I can't see the wiring, but the 2nd gens power to the CPS is fused, perhaps a fuse?

The Alternator relay on the driver inner fender could have gone bad. Stranger things have happened. I would change it out and see if things change.

If you install a fluidampr...you have to use the CPS relocation kit. The original location will no longer work.

No fuse on the CPS on the 92/93 trucks that I am aware of....but that don't mean it could exist?

Is it possible the control module has failed? my truck has an external regulator... my dads does not. is that just a cheap way of bypassing this issue?

Well if you already have an external regulator...then all the suggestions you have been given were on the assumption that the PCM was controlling the charging.

I would tend to think that it might be the external voltage regulator then.

The issue is with my dads truck which does NOT currently have an Ext. VR. I was wondering if installing one is a solution because the PCM could have possibly stopped working properly? thanks for bearing with me.. im learning a lot reading the sticky but im still stupid.
