Fill r up??

Does anyone know why the pump stops when you can still put in about 5 or more gallons. It a real headache to actually fill up at the pumps. My 2000 dodge ram never had a problem with this. Did something change within the fuel tank to cause this. If anyone knows why this happens, or even better how to fix this it would be appreciated. Thanks

Do a search on here for a fuel tank vent mod. There is a company that sells the parts to fix this problem but I don't remember the name of them.

www.innertruck.com

Great customer service.

Kit took 2hrs to install (drop tank...install kit...install tank) with a buddy and a motorcycle jack.

Kit increased usable tank volume to ~37 gallons; pre kit, usable volume was ~32 gallons. Best $35 spent!

HTH

The federal government requires an air gap in all tanks, and since Dodge uses these tanks for gasoline too, they needed that big of a gap. Install the vent kit and be done. It is the best $50 and 2 hours spent on the truck....

Does it work on the second gen trucks or just the third? Does any one have pictures or the directions?

If you go underneath and look up and there is a raised area at the rear of the tank, and the vent hose is mounted on the lower part you can move the vent hose to the top of the raised area and pick up that much fuel. It was over 5 gallons on my 04.5.

Well I've got a short bed but I can fit ~38 gallons in mine when almost completely empty (right after I installed the kit). I can get over 600 miles on a tank if I let it get to below E and the Low Fuel light comes on, but I don't usually let it get that low. I normally fill up at ~400 miles and I put in 23 - 25 gallons.
