I feel so violated, and so stupid.

I had to run home to grab something I forgot. I jumped out of the truck so quickly that I didn’t make sure I was in park. As my feet hit the ground I noticed that the truck was still moving. Not thinking of life and limb, I tried to reenter my truck to stop it. Quickly I found myself wedged between my camper (on its jacks) and my door. Franticly I scrambled to jam it in park with no luck. After dragging down the camper, I crushed my wheel barrel and hit my shed. The camper is OK but I need a new bumper, headlight, fender, and door. My baby is at the body shop now being fixed, being handled by another man that doesn’t love her. Some strange dirty man that would not car if she was a Ford or a Dodge! She deserves better than them, but this time I am afraid I am not the right man for her. I am a bad man. I love her for more than her body, I love her for what is inside. But alas her beautiful body deserves more than I can offer. Please forgive me.

Tim I am glad you aren't the one in the "body Shop" or even worse. Hard not to try and stop something like that, but too often people get hurt or killed over something that left alone will do a couple thousand in damage and the insurance will pick up the tab.
No replacing some of those parts you have. Hang in there you will get your baby back soon, just be thankful you are ok.

Re:I feel so violated, and so stupid.

I had a steep drive way and was working on my Cherokee. I had to have p/brake off so I had the tranfercase in L4 and the trans in 1st. I reached in to the dash and knocked the trans in to neutral. The car dragged me down the drive way and into the street. Luckly it didn't hit anything and I was able to roll away from the wheels. I looked like i fell off a bike.

Re:I feel so violated, and so stupid.

I was using my wifes 4x4 to yank some old fence posts out of the ground here with a logging chain and she was driving it for me. I had just had her back one out, and was udoing the chain in the front of her truck, when she set the parking brake and jumped out. It was on a pretty steep hill and as she got out she smelled a little clutch as she had slipped it just a bit that time, she thought it was brakes and reached in the door and released the parking brake.
I was bent over head at the bumper level when I heard the brake release and immediately planted my feet square to the truck and got my hands on the hood, pushing with everything I had. Luckily at 6'2 280 I was strong enough to actually hold this thing long enough for her to jump back in and set the brake.
I still don't know why she felt the need to get out in the first place, but I never asked as she was obviously shaken up bad enough over what she did on her own. Sometimes being as big as a mobile home has it's advantages ;D

Man, I feel your pain. I felt the same way this past summer when I backed into a tree and crushed the corner of the rear fender. But my repair guy had a passion for a good looking body and it's fixed like it never happened, with a Reunel bumper to boot. I hope you're back on the road soon. Welcome to the "club" :

Just a thought (because I've had to do it in the past), if you're outside and the door is open and it starts rolling, go for the parking brake with your hand.

Re:I feel so violated, and so stupid.

That would have worked, but the door was being pushed shut by yhe camper. the only reason the door didn't shut all the way is my ankle wasin the way.

Re:I feel so violated, and so stupid.

That stuff happens so quick. I really feel for ya.............Three months ago I was working on a project in front of my garage with a table saw. There was a thunderstorm coming and I looked up at it and reached down to pick up a piece of wood on the table and felt a "thump" on my left thumb. A trip to the ER, 9 stiches, a week and a half off work and I STILL have a splint on trying to get the bone to heal. I understand your pain.
Tom
