Fault Codes PO148 & PO628

Hay guys I am new here so please be gentle if I screw it up the first time or two

Any way I have an 04 5.9 that gave a few hicups on the highway the other day and showed codes PO 148 and PO 628. I know these are both fuel related codes. But what I would like to know is. What is the most common cure for these codes? Also truck will now only start and run for a few moments at a time.

Thank you and I am sorry if I have this in the wrong board.

Lift pump is going out. The lift pump is covered under the Cummins emission warranty for 5 years or 100,000 miles. If you meet this or are really close, contact your favorite dealer to get the replacement parts or possible warranted repair. The warranted fix relocates the lift pump to the tank.

I've got the P0628 error and another one now, just had the truck towed into the dealership. They said I have 20 months left and more then 53k left on my drivetrain warranty. The tech just called and said they don't want to cover it!

I called Dodge's complaint line and they're looking into it, I'll hear on Monday.... Any suggestions?

Thanks Rich,
I think it should be covered under the 84mo/100k powertrain warranty at least! I'll let you know what the dealer says!!
I've had the truck for 64 months and only 47k miles, what a PITA!

Yes, I got it covered! I had to call the 800 number, the dealer told me it wasnt covered, but I know the head tech there, he said to call the dodge 800number and was very nice to them on the phone.

I told them on the phone that I'd referred at least 8-10 to buy their products, I've read on all the message boards that this is a common problem and that I had 20 months left on the power train warranty. It took them a few days (since no one in that department works on Fridays!). The 800 number closes at 6 eastern time.

It took me a little less then a week, but they upgraded the pump into the tank and added a software upgrade so that when I start it up I hit the cruise control and set and it bumps the rpm's up to 1,100-1,300 for ideling!

I am excited that you had good luck dealing with the 800 number. I called this morning and they seem to beleive it should be covered as well and opened a case up and gave me the case number and all. They also told me not to pick up truck today as they have 24 hours to reveiw this problem and get a hold of dealer then have the dealer call me with the out come. I am hopefull it ends up being covered.

I am also excited that this forum exists because I know I wood have just blindly paid for this awsuming the dealer to know all about their own companies warranty.

Thanks for your comments and I will post a comment when I hear back from Dodge

Hang in there and stick to your guns!!

I ended up driving my truck down the street to a friends house, after talking to my friend who's the head tech over there he gave me the number so I got a free tow. If they don't have it resloved today, you might end up waiting until Monday since everyone in the warranty dispute teams are on Furlough Fridays!

End the end I'm happy with the outcome, it only cost me 100 to get the truck fixed and it came back with more gas in there than when I had it towed in, but I was down for about a week without the truck.
Let us know how it goes!

You should have an 84 month 100k mile warranty on the powertrain (I think that 's what the came with, ask your dealer about that, my tech buddy told me I had 20 months left (and the truck only had 50k miles).
How many miles are on your truck?

I guess you need to be a bigger a-hole on the phone, tell them you see that on all the message board you see that its a defective part and that you want it covered under your warranty, that you know this is a problem with how Cummings engineered the part and you personally know 5 people this has happened to had all they had to pay was the 100, why are they trying to screw you. Is there a supervisor you can talk to ?

idk... sure seems like it shood be covered, and has been covered for others....

I am also having a hard time with this.... I will see what i can talk thru with them today but at this point seems like unlees i get a lawyer to respond to them it will fall on deaf ears
