Well, I figured I should post some pics of my F350 up here in the conversion section. This truck rolled thru a local auction last week, and I had to have it!

Its got a 2005 5.9 Cummins CR engine hooked to the Ford 6 speed.

The truck has 120K on it, the engine has less than 5k miles on it. All of the factory gauges work as they should including the tach, and its got diprocol piller guages for EGT, boost, and fuel PSI. The OBDII port under the dash even works correctly, it shows the truck to be a 2005 dodge when you plug a scantool into it. It has a FordCummins.com adapter and motor mounts.


It runs and drives awesome, now I just need to strip all of the crap off of the body, like the chrome, and sidesteps, then put some Cummins badges on it!

Supposedly the owner lost his business, and all of his vehicles were being auctioned. The other serious bidder on the truck was the mechanic that built it. It sold for far less than a stock 7.3 stroke F350 would have sold for.


This week I had a buddy who works at chrysler hook a DRB scantool up to the truck, and let me check it out. It was pretty interesting, it gave me a vin #, and a mileage of 8,900 miles on the engine. We carfaxed the VIN number of the engine, and it shows it was a 2005 dodge ram sold new out of texas, and totaled 5 months later. So that explains where the engine came from.

I just drove from Colorado Springs, to Detroit and back over the last week. I averaged 17.5 MPG. Thats a little less than I was hoping for, but its a 4.10 equipped truck. Im going to look into some taller tires for it, to try and get the RPM's down a bit.

Well, I finally got some work done to the truck. I spent a whole day finishing up the wiring, and fixing alot of wiring that was semi sketchy. I figured out the wiring for the intake grid heaters, now they work just like they're supposed to, they even use the factory glowplug light on the dash! I installed my Racor bypass oil filter on on the inner fenderwell, Im kinda weird about clean oil. I also put an aluminum expansion tank in, as the truck still had that big goofy plastic one that sits over the radiator/shroud on the powerstrokes. Since the fan on the cummins sits up higher, there was no way to correctly mount the plastic expansion tank, so it had to go away. The truck didn't have a windshield washer tank for some reason, I think they just forgot to put it back, so I got a universal one and tucked it down on the inner fender. At this point, the only things that don't work, are the A/C, which is just getting lines made, and cruise. Scott at destroked.com is working on a solution to that problem, so I'll wait until he figures it out. In the long run, if the only thing on the truck that doesn't function like factory is cruise, I can live with that.

I also installed a Bully Dog PMT. I was going to go with a smarty, but the PMT has a great gauge setup, and is adjustable on the fly. So far Im really impressed with it, I can roll onto the throttle in 3rd, at a 20mph roll, and it will blow the tires off. (2 of them, no limited slip...)

This being my first commonrail, im pretty impressed with the power, and how quiet it is. Man, my 01 24v will wake the dead!

If you could find a way to put FORD in place of the dodge you could really have some fun with people and tell them they just have to special order at the dealer!!!. Good lookin ride.

YEah, can you remove that plastic cover? I think it only covers the front 2/3 area of the valve cover anyway.

Yeah, I had it off when I installed the oil return for the bypass, but it looks kinda weird with it off. Theres big tall bosses for the plastic cover bolts, and theres a crankcase breather under there too.

One of these days when cash permits, I'd like to get one of these...

Yeah, it makes it tough to fill my new windshield washer tank too. I'm going to try and make another setup that fits better, and has a spash shield around it.

Well Ive been driving the heck out of this thing the last few weeks, so far so good. We had a few days last week where it really got cold here. I got to test out the grid heaters, and they work perfect. They even dim the headlights on and off like a dodge!

I did have a little scare the other day at a stoplight, I had the truck in gear, with the clutch pushed in, and the clutch master cylinder broke, and the truck tried to attack the little car in front of me.... luckily I had my other foot on the brake. I did some research on the ford forums, and I guess the superduty clutch hydraulics are a known weak point. So I ended up changing it all, the master, slave, and all of the lines.

I put Cummins stickers on the back window, and fenders, and Ive been stopped about a dozen times now. Either by people who know about conversions, or people who think Im an idiot because I don't know fords came with powerstrokes...

When comparing this truck to my '01 Dodge 3500, I have to say it rides smoother, but doesn't handle nearly as well. The interior is a little more comfortable for me, as Im really tall. Its still a little hard to get used to it, since Ive been driving second-gen dodges for a long time. I did notice the small back doors on the cab make a little more noise than my dodge. Im probably going to try and adjust the latches a little to see if I can tighten them up.

Overall its a pretty cool truck, and if nothing else, its a good conversation piece!
