F-350 CTD conversion question

I used to have an 01 Dodge but sold it because of big payment yada yada yada...
I loved that truck and the way the Cummins would start up in the winter time.

I now have a Ford F-350 4WD PSD. I kind of like the PSD, the way it sounds, lots of power and the fuel econ isn't that bad, the problem is winter starting. The glow plugs and using crankcase oil to fire the injectors is (in my opinion) a recipe for a hard starting engine when it's below 20 degrees. I know guys that say they have no problem but by golly I need to know my truck is going to start.

Enter the Cummins conversion. I've been gathering info to see if it's something I want to tackle both financialy and physically ( I have the mechanical know how) I'm just getting old and sore all the time etc etc.

If I were to find a doner truck say 94-95 vintage there's a few questions that come to mind that I haven't read anywhere.

-Will these conversions kits allow one to bolt the foreign engine into the Ford without much or any fabrication?
-Is there enough room lenght wise for the intercooler or does the grill/front end need to be modified?
-How do you work out things like the cruise control and everything else the PCM runs?, these trucks are like the star ship enterprise where as it's run by a computer.
-*Edit* I almost forgot, what about transmission? It looks like the main shaft will be short by adding 1/2" or so using the adapter plate. Will the spline fully engage the clutch and pilot?

Like I said I really like the Ford truck just not so crazy about what makes it go huden huden.

Thanks a million Guys.
Don

First off what year PSD? If its an OBS the there is some firewall massageing that needs to be done. If its a SD there is plenty of room. Second there is NO kit that will just bolt right in. You will have to fit it and Drill new holes for the mounts etc. An Intercooler will fit. Cruise probably wont work any more. DeStroked Plate will work with the ford Transmission so no worry about input shaft length.

There's some other hurdles like how to make a throttle work since the Ford is all electronic and the CTD's need a cable.

I may just buy a Dodge.....

By the way it's a 1997 and not a SD.

Gas pedal is no problem, One from a gasser and a cable from a cummins and your all set.
Yes the 97 will need some firewall massageing and some cross member work if you use the Dodge AC compressor in its original local.

try these websites for somemore parts and info, I say keep your ford and do the swap, I had a f-350 that i sold to get my cummins, the cummins is twice the motor but my f-350 was twice the truck, one of these days I'd like to get another ford and do the swap myself.

Wink

Well doggone it.....I had given up on the idea until I read a little. I think they make after market cruise control although I don't know anyone who ever done it or how reliable it is. Yes, I want my cruise control to work.

The F-350 is one heck of a machine, stout and reliable. I just wish it was married up to a decent mill.

Thanks for the encouragment
