Engine warning light...

Hey Folks,

I have a 2001 2500 4x4 automatic fitted with a Banks PowerPack System. On Friday, my check engine light came on for the first time ever. I took it to the dealership and asked them to check the brakes as well (I am approaching 50,000 miles). The onboard computer spat out a whole slew of error codes that contradicted themselves (low oil pressure, high oil pressure, etc) - the tech told me the Banks system scrambled all of the error codes so he couldn't ID the problem but he guessed it was my injector pump failing - apparently a $2,000 job. Meanwhile, my front brakes were down below 5% and upsetting the sensors. I had them replaced, the rotors machined, and the error codes all reset.

The tech told me that the injector pump would be covered under warranty if I were to remove every trace of the Banks System. I have driven about 200 miles since I picked my truck up and the warning light has not come back on.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What are the symptoms of a failing injector pump? Are there any companies out there that produced a beefed up pump so I don't have to worry about this???

Thanks!

Re:Engine warning light...

probably the reason your pump went out is that your lift pump went out or is going out you might want to make sure that it is working or it might kill your pump again. the best way to keep a eye on your pump is to get a fuel pressure gauge. I dont know of any replacement injector pump. usaully when a pump goes it will quit working.

No such thing as a beefed up injector pump for those 24 valves. At least you had a tech that did not invalidate your warranty, that is what happens most places, and then it gets posted to the DC computer system for a permascrew of the owner.

I always pull the go fast stuff before I see a dealer.

The light will likely go for a while until it sees more codes.

I would definitely check the fuel pressure and be prepared for a new lift pump.
