EGT temps/ exhaust brakes

OK, so I'm new to the diesel mods. I've always been a gas'er , and finally switched over.
Here goes: I've been looking at installing an exhaust brake on my rig, cuz I get to haulin' heavy loads at times. Some friends and I got into the discussion about exhaust brakes.

This question came up: Since the exhaust brake causes an outflow obstruction, heat should rise from exhaust not being able to exit beyond the Valve, therefore causing a rise in engine temps at the combustion level. If this is true, has anybody with an EGT gauge and exhaust brakes noticed a rise in EGT 's while braking using exhaust brakes? ??? And if Temps do go up, how significantly? Are they high enough to cause engine abuse after repeated braking or use of the exhaust brakes? ??? ???

Let me know what you think
Re:EGT temps/ exhaust brakes

EGT's are the result of fuel/air ratios increasing as to move the load, as you increase the fuel flow the turbo supplies more air which increases the combustion temperature to produce more horse power. Exhaust-Gas-Temperatures are the waste heat generated dumping out the exhaust pipe, exhaust brakes will not generate but retain residual heat from pulling. E Brakes are used to warm up (water temp) a vehicle on cold days by creating resistance causing the engine to generate heat faster but this will not equal the resistance that pulling a load does. Hopefully this also helps you understand how "overfuelling" with fuel system enhancements creates high EGT's under high fuel/load situations. Idling down a hill creates no combustion heat as the rack is closed except for enough to keep engine running. PK
