Step up the bits little by little, vaccum out the shavings along the way, and youll be golden.
Many guys drop the turbo, cover it up, etc. Ive done two now on my truck without issue by just drilling and sucking out the tiny shavings. Obviously take each bit slowly, to minimize the shaving size, but I havent had any problems yet.

Yeah I dopped my turbo to install it, and boy that was a chore! Yeah if I were to do it again I would go stacked's way. Just use stepped bits to keep the shavings small and vaccum them and you will be fine. Good Luck.

It would be that last little push as the bit breaks through that would scare me...I'd be praying to the electrolux gods at that point.

Honestly, if you take your time and go slow, dont force it too much, the shavings are minimal. And even still, the shavings are still forced out by the bit turning, and the last push always sent those back out as well. Ive done it on mine, twice, and I know other friends of mine have done it the same way with no issues... |

tape over most of the tailpipe, and just before you break through, start it. with goggles on of course. the exhaust pressure will blow the chips out.

I left a little slit in the shape of an + in the tape too. Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the advice guys - I will be doing mine at some point in the near future.
Can anyone show a picture of the exact location where it needs to go? |

![]() The one up top measures cylinders 1-3, on the bottom side, 4-6(hottest reading), since the back cylinders run hotter than the front. Id almost mount it in the collector portion like my bottom one, just so you see the hottest reading youre going to have. |

I see in the pic where you put the probe, did I put mine in the wrong place which is farther toward the front of the truck? I thought the Commander pics showed it up there? I hope!

You know I ran a thermo reader on mine and they were all about 10 degrees of each other, that was at idle, may be different at WOT.

I installed mine last week.
If you install the probe at the 3rd cylinder, use a magnet that will fit through the hole to remove the chips that fall inside. You can also use grease on the bit and the tap. That will hold most of the chips.

You mean the digital infared gun? I may try that sometime to see, but under WOT I have differences in the 100* range, and idle/cruise, 50* |
