E-brake pedal stuck

A few days ago I released my e-brake and it pops up like usual but it jam'd up and won't go down. Now when I say it won't go down, I mean I can stand on the pedal and it won't move AT ALL! The cable is not effected and not tight, it seems like it's only in the mechanism itself. Mine's an 06 with a manual so I'm always using the e-brake for parking with the truck running so it's driving me bonkers not having it.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? It's hard to see what's going on with the mechanism while it's under the dash so my next step is to remove it and determine the problem. I'm not sure how much of a pain in the **** that is going to be tho.

No responses but I guess I'll post a follow up to this.

I took the pedal assembly out of the truck.
-loosen e-brake cable under the drivers doors
-remove plastic drivers knee panel
-disconnect release linkage (red plastic clip)
-remove 3 nuts that hold the assembly in place
-disconnect cable
-remove

I clamped the assembly in a vise and gave it a good look over and didn't find anything obvious. Tapped on it with a hammer and something broke free and it started working again. Not sure exactly what really happened except that it bound up. I did a good look over the gear teeth and noticed that the last 4-6 teeth had significant wear on the leading edge. They are metal but must not be that hard cause it shouldn't wear down like that. I expect a few more years out of this pedal before I have to find a new one.

Lub'd it up and put it back in the truck and so far so good. Next time I won't remove, I'll just tap with a hammer till it works.

Well aparently it's not really fixed cause it's still happening. Most times I can tap on the mechanism with a sledge and get it to free up. Now when I release I try to keep my foot on the pedal to keep it from slamming all the way up and jamming again.

I love it, interior work with a sledge hammer.
