DPF hangs way too low!!
I went to check out trucks today and noticed on the cab and chassis that the DPF hangs about 6 inches below the frame. Other than the diffs the DPF is the lowest part of the truck. To compound this the DPF is near the middle of the truck just after the cab. What the edited by admin is Dodge thinking, these are trucks that can spend a considerable amount of time offroad.
Looks like there will be a good profit center for Dodge replacing DPF's that get trashed while you are offroading.

where would you have liked them to put it?
Keeping in mind that it gets to around 1100 deg F during regen.

I didn't think the C & C had to worry as much about ground clearence like a off road 4x4 pickup truck. If I'm thinking correctly at 6 inches below the frame the DPF still has about the same clearnace or a bit more then the rear axel from the ground?

Even though it's as high as the axles that doesn't mater since it's in the middle of the truck, with the longer cab and frame versions it wont take much of a bump to get that thing hung up, the axles have wheels to ride them up over things.

Luke. I don't drive a 3rd gen, I have an 01 quad cab long box. I use it as a service truck, and there are many areas that I go into, to service mining equipment, that I have rubbed the t-case skidplate. This is on what passes for a "road" into the minesite. Therefore, I do not see where it would be considered " doing something I shouldn't be doing".
As I see it, trucks like these are built to be work trucks, and as much as I would like to live and work where all the roads are paved... I don't. I'll take God's country every time. That being said, I could easily see ripping the DPF off of a truck, if it is hanging lower than the T-case skidplate. And that would not be a happy occurrence. For me, or the people who designed the thing that way, because you could be assured that they would hear about it.
I have given thought to picking up a 5500 dodge and putting a service box on it, but if this is going to be an issue on those trucks as well, then I will go with an older FL70 and a larger box, for less hassles.
Just cheerios for the neurons. Have a good one.
