What does this mean?

What does this mean?
I was reading in my owner's manual and on page 197 it says:

"Damage to clutch can result from starting in 2nd or 3rd gear with a loaded vehicle. Use each gear in numerical order-do not skip a gear."

I understand the skipping gear part, but are they saying you can start in 3rd gear in an unloaded truck?

Re:What does this mean?
Not suggested...but accomplishable on a downhill grade. I have successfully achieved decent results sliding the clutch out in 3rd given the combination of "downhill" and "unloaded truck" scenarios.

Sometimes I only leave the clutch out in 2nd to get the truck rolling only to quickly shift to 3rd and give 'er he!!.

Thing to be wary about is "I believe" the NV-5600 has an internal oil pump which circulates the fluids around inside the tranny. (not a wicking motion as previous trannys).

I have heard that it is best to keep the engine speed above 1500 rpm and never take 6th gear below 1500rpm to promote transmission longevity. (or am I thinking the NV-4500?)

Beyond what I have given here leaves me with little knowledge...heck all of what I say may be incorrect...maybe I will learn something from the following posts too.

;D

Re:What does this mean?
I do it all the time. I start in 2nd from a full stop, but if the truck is moving AT ALL I start in 3rd. Only unloaded, of course.

Cheers

Re:What does this mean?
I have to find some way to build speed a little quicker. I have to cross a busy intersection and 2nd, 3rd then 4th gets me people telling me I'm number one. 2nd to 4th is better but it seems like the engine lugs a little and I don't want that. I will try the quick 2nd then 3rd. Any suggestion will help.
