Diesel Fuel Additives
Anyone read the November 2009 issue of Diesel Power Magazine?
Pages 150-152 covers using three types of fuel additives, to help out with getting better mpg. The test mule was a 1997 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4, with the 7.3L Powerstroke......auto trans, 4.10 gears, LT285 tires No Additive: Highway Average: 14.6 City Average: 13.7 Overall Average: 14.1 Two Stroke Pre Mix (TC-W3): Best Highway: 16.3 Best City: 14.9 Highway Average: 15.6 City Average: 14.6 Opti-Lube XPD: Best Highway: 17.4 Best City: 15.7 Highway Average: 16.1 City Average: 14.4 FPPF 8+ Cetane Improver: Best Highway: 17.3 Best City: 15.0 Highway Average: 16.1 City Average: 14.9 Fuel Mixing: Two Stroke: 200:1 Opti-Lube: 256:1 FPPF: 256:1 I thought it was a good test that shows additives should be used all the time, with really good results!

Thanks for posting that. I had not seen it.
I'll bet the Two Cycle oil was the cheapest per oz to use. Results are about what I've been seeing using it the past several years in my 2000 Cummins. It does seem to run good in the 2006 at 256:1 or 1/2 oz per gallon. I'm seeing high 19's to low 20's for mileage on the hwy at 68 mph. My last two cummins trucks seemed to get into the fuel tank above 2000 rpm's. So I ran just under 2000. This 06 does not seem to be much differant. Dave

I read the best for lubricity was good old B-20. 1 qt or so per tankful (could always use more), & it increased mpg too & quieted it down. At 3.50 a gal. it would be .88 a qt. :-) (cheaper than 2 stroke mix)

I have just started using Opti-Lube summer blend, and I like it much better than the Power Service Diesel Klean. Engine is quieter and smoother. No mileage numbers yet, but appears to be about the same as before.

Thanks for the info. I have not been using any additive for the past couple of months and need to start back. I normally run 2 stroke at 1 oz per gallon. Sometimes Power Services. I've never noticed much of an increase in mileage.

I just got a container of the FPPF 8+ Cetane Improver in the mail
After the current tank, with Power Service, runs out......I will add the FPPF and see how it does |

I just started to use 5.25 oz of Howe's at every fill up to see if it makes a difference.
