Well I went by the Diesel Dynamics shop for the first time last Friday and was talking about some possible mods for my truck. The guy behind the counter says, why don't you just put our Power Module in your truck, you will get the most bang for your buck that way. I expressed my concerns about my truck being completely factory equipped at this point, and he said that should be no problem. I, anxious to put some more power in my ride, figured that he was far better educated than myself regarding these matters so I bought the module. Before I go to far, I want to let you know that I don't have a lot of experience to compare my results to others. I will tell you what I can. I went to the shop with a couple of "buddies" that were heckling and egging me on to just get the TTPM, peer pressure is also great for throwing caution to the wind. I dropped the $500 for the module and we proceeded to the parking lot to add it to my truck. Before the TTPM My HO had some guts when driving around town, and when hauling the camper, it didn't seem to notice the extra weight. The camper is an Arctic Fox weighing in around 3600 pounds. Normally driving around town I averaged 17.5 MPG, and that is driving with a light foot and really trying to get the best economy that I could. After the TTPM So, upon starting the truck up, I thought I would notice something different in the sound or the idle or something, but nothing was different. As I pulled out of my parking space I could feel something more in the throttle. My buddies were pushing me to try out some of the new ponnies we just added. I got to the street entrance, and after making sure I wasn't going to get in trouble, I gave it the juice, and it lit up! My tires squeeled and I was up to 60, in a 45, before I knew it. I backed down and we headed for the freeway. On the freeway the truck went from 50 to 100 with little effort or time. I have also seen my fuel economy improve. I am now sitting comfortably at 21.5 MPG and that is with me being a bit of a lead foot. I'm throwing the camper on Friday and taking a trip to Auburn, CA for the weekend. I'll post more about how it handles with the camper on it when I get back. For those of you cringing about having the computer on a stock truck, what would you suggest as my first improvement? I have another big check coming in January.
Heck,i live about 5 miles from Auburn.I would like to see and hear your truck with the box if you have time.Have a safe trip.

Is it just a pressure box?
Yep, the DD TTPM for the 03's is simply a rebadged Edge EZ, which is fuel pressure only. BTW, the reading you get on your trip computer for mileage will be completely wrong after installing the EZ/TTPM. You may see a slight gain in mileage (some of my customers have reported 1 - 1.5 mpg) but you may also see a slight hit to economy (again, we've had reports in the 1 mpg range). Rod |

So, why would the MPGs no longer be accurate?

So, why would the MPGs no longer be accurate?
Viper, These truck do not have a real "fuel flow" meter to actually measure the amount of fuel used. The mileage is calculated by the CPU by reading the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS). Since the boxes raise the static injection presure (without telling the CPU) it takes less pedal to inject the same amount fuel. Because you are going the same speed but using less pedal, the CPU thinks you are getting better mileage. Simple, right ![]() The Boss Hog (That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;D )

Re:Diesel Dynamics True Torque Power Module
Boss, that just makes too much sense. Thanks for the simple explanation.
With that said, how do you calculate your mileage now? Do you just have to use the odometer and work off a full tank? I take it that the DTE reading is no longer accurate either? |

uuhhh . . . paper and pencil?
Sorry, I just couldn't resist Actually, I'm still waiting to get a box so my CPU is still as accurate (or inaccurate) as it ever was.The Boss Hog (And to all a good night ;D) |
