DEFROSTER FIX???

i have a 04 ctd, and the defroster smell is horrible. i talked to the service manager about possibly making the defroster run in the recirc mode. this should eliminate the smell since all the air is drawn from inside the cab. i get the smell if i run the heat without the recirc on also. anyone have any advice on trying this fix. i know there was another thread on this, but being new to the system i was unable to find it today. sorry, ill learn.

Re:DEFROSTER FIX???

Americanpie - I noticed the smell running the AC. Not very bad. I do not have any smell now running defrost or the heater. I hope it is MIA. I guess I will find out this coming summer.

I always got the odor after sitting at a light or stop sign then accelerating. Only under those conditions.

I know this does not help. However, maybe yours will go away with time.

Re:DEFROSTER FIX???

I found this at Geno's Garage, has anyone tried one yet? I wonder if this would stop the contaminated outside air being introduced into the cab. I have not noticed any smells or any other problems yet but would still like to have one.

CAB FRESH FILTER KIT
The manufacturer states that the dual-stage charcoal-activated filtering system will remove 97% of the dirt, dust, and soot as well as reduce odors by 76%. We can tell you that the diesel exhaust smell is greatly diminished. The springtime pollen season will be the real test.

Easy to install, the dual filtering system fits over the factory vents and is held in place with self tapping Phillip’s-head screws.

Cab Fresh Filter Kit (fits ‘94 and up trucks) - $49.00
Cab Fresh Replacement Filters – $14.00

Re:DEFROSTER FIX???

I had the smell initially but it went away after a couple of months. At first I thought it was the oil but in hindsight it may have something to do with the clear paint that the factory puts on the motors. Regardless, it seems to disappear for most people.

The Cab Fresh filter kits are for the older body style 1994 to 2002. I am not aware of a kit for the new body style but I may be wrong.
