Sounds like another VP-44 is in your future...

Having had both a VP-44 and an APPS go south, they were completely different symptoms. Your description is what my truck did for about 6 months as I nursed it to a complete and totally dead VP-44.
You list a Carter as a pusher, does that mean you are still plumbed into the factory pump as well?? |

I had the same problem at just over 50k miles. Two dead pedal incidents and a P216 code. Except for that the truck started ran fine. The fuel pressure has always been good. The dealer replaced the VP44 under warranty.

fwiw, fuel pressure isn't the end all in VP-44's life... you also need fuel volume.

I've had two different VP'S last less than 10k (on two diff. trucks), so your's lasted 5 times long than those two did. Fuel pressure and volume are just two things that can shorten the life of a vp, but they can, and do die, just for the fun of it.

I would think it would have a APPS code if that was the case.

There is a good writeup on Blue Chips website about VP44 failures... it's a must read. |

Been through this a few times now. First time it happened I thought right off that it was the VP44. A year later same thing but what was strange is if I turned off the truck and restarted it was fine. Again it happened and this time I noticed my edge comp box was flickering. I shut it off and worked fine. I started researching and noticed the problems started when I had my comp box upgraded to hot. I have had 3 different boxes replaced by edge and this last time I had thenm set it up back to Comp only. I believe all of my problems were related to the comp box. I bought a rebuilt VP44 the first time and I blieve there was nothing wrong with it. We shall see if this works.

You could try the apps recalibration method, it's free. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...65&postcount=9 Did you change the lift pump when you installed a new vp-44?, Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? It is likely that your vp is dieing again if you answered no to the questions.
