compressor cycling on/off?

Hey guys! Im new to this forum and Ive got a question already

There is what appears to be a compressor under my hood, it is located on the passengers side twords the rear in front of the computer. It has a single small line that comes out of the bottom and splits into the dash then across the engine compartment.

I have looked in my BASIC manual that I have and cant figure out what its is or what it does. But it has been cycling on and off about every 45 seconds for the last month. Not knowing what it was I unplugged it as I thought it was connected to the windshield wiper fluid, but it wasnt. The cycling stopped, but I still can figure out what it is and why its cycling...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to DTR. Click the "User CP" up above in the dark blue bar. That will take you to the User Control Panel where you can make a Signature. In the signature, you can put what type of vehicle/engine/year you have so someone can better answer your questions.

Could be for an exhaust brake. Give us the specifics of your truck.

Does it have 2 lines coming off it? Like you said 1 into the dash/cab, maybe the other to the front of the truck, sounds like the a/c compressor, likely cycling cause its low on freon. Is it belt driven?

That is just a vacuum pump used for HVAC or other accessories, they used it for cruise control on some of the earlier models

Why would it be cycling on and off repeatedly?

Here's my thread I tried to start that no one cared about ..

http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...d.php?t=172687

On my truck the zip ties, holding the hose going under the driver side battery tray, was so tight, the vibration just wore it down over time. I'm not sure what it's connected too.. maybe a cruise control component.

I just spliced the hose and all is good..

I'm sure there are other culprit zip ties out there..

good luck
