changing wiper blades - Dodge Diesel

I haven't changed wiper blades since Ive bought truck last year. How do you change them, I can't lift them up since hood is in a way. Do I have to turn wipers on and turn off power so that they're in up position or is there another trick?

On the 2nd gens remove the entire arm by moving the tab right where it connects to the stud coming out of the base of the windshield. If you move the tab while pulling and gently shaking the mount it will come off. Oil the stud with the grooves on it and it'll come right off next time. I went with the Michelin frameless wipers this time and love them. No more streaks. They are $12.97 at Wallmart about 30% more then the framed kind,but well worth it.

I just stand beside the truck, lift the wiper arm as much as the hood allows and remove/replace the wiper. Do the same for the other side.

If you flip open the plastic tab where the wiper frame meets the arm you can pull the assembly off to replace the blade, leaving the arm in place. If you want to remove the entire arm you must pull up on the arm a bit to slide the little tab sideways to release it from the post. Lube it as suggested and its a lot easier to get off next time.

I've decided to change to Trico blades. Installed a set on mom's car last fall and theyre still working great and they're all rubber outside so ice/snow doesn't stick on them.

I may e-mail you after this winter and see how they are holding up. Out here I go thru three sets a year of regular refills. My dad ran them on his truck in MT and said they were great until he needed to repalce them and were kinda spendy. Keep us posted!

Hi Silver R/T, I've always had good luck with Trico over many years in both the southwest and northwest. I used to do the refills (they are good if you are careful and patient) but lately I just change out the whole metal/rubber wiper assembly because the plastic clips go bad in a couple of years and the clips only come with the metal/rubber wiper assembly. I've always thought it was a pitiful shame and waste of money and resources to throw away a perfectly good metal blade holder so as to attain the .20 cent plastic clips on the very more expensive full assembly. Sorry I had to vent a little 30 year frustration on you.

Drivers side I open the door and stand on the inside floor board to reach it. Pass. side I can get to from the ground. I just put a set of Bosch Icons on for the winter. We'll see if they are all they are cracked up to be.

I don't know how to change mine.
I just pull into my local Napa when they aren't busy and they do it for me for free in just a few minutes.
