sound's like there's something wrong with the pick-up hose.you might be able to fix it without buying the whole module.

X2 - If you read 1/4 tank and you have 1/4 tank its not the sender. And for heavens sake, before you spend 520 bucks on a stock replacement spend that money on a real fix (AirDog or FASS). JMO....

Ok ClayBob, you may be right. You might have figured out what Diesel Demon was explaining to us.

Does anybbody have the dodge part number for the sender? Half a tank On the gauge and my truck apparently was out of fuel because it started when diesel added to the tank.

There are a couple of sending units used in the 2nd gen trucks. My '99 took part number 4897669AB which was used for a couple of years only. The other sender which I don't have the number for was more widely used so make sure you get the correct one for your truck. You might not know which one you have in there until you pull it out of the tank or until someone else here can tell you with certainty.

Do you pull up to the big boy pump with the big hose? I believe a number of people have reported problems when they use the high volume fuel pump.

I never used the big boy pump, the windings on the rheostat just wore thin from constant bobbing of the float. The windings are not very durable.

I just paid 68 or 78 dollars for the sending unit on my truck. I dropped the tank on the floor. Not real hard to do, disconnecting and connecting the lines off and on the tank is the hardest part. At least for me. Make sure when you screw the big plastic nut that holds the whole unit in place is on tight and straight.

On the same topic... My gauge doesn't read wrong...It doesnt read anything. It did it every once in a while about 2 weeks ago, and now as soon as I start the truck, it cycles, goes to dead E, and the low fuel light comes on. Sound like the same problem?
