Changed oil, put in 11 liters, now 1/2" over full
Changed oil, let it drain for 2 days, installed new Fleetguard Stratopore and installed EXACTLY 11 liters of oil. Drove the truck for 25 miles and let it sit 2 hours. The user manual says the 6.7 holds 11.3 liters. On the dipstick its reading a good 1/2 inch over full. Am I insane, my 5.9 did the same thing to me.

If your oil pressure is ok leave it the way it is. if it jumps or dives then be worried.

This is why you never add oil based on what the book says... You add 90% of it, run and check... Too much oil can be VERY bad for an engine.
Unless he has added an oil psi gauge he has no way of knowing what his real oil psi it. The gauge in the 03+ trucks is fake.

That don't make any sence. Either the pan is the wrong one or the dipstick is wrong.
There should be a part number on the dipstick. See what it is and call the dealer and see if it the correct one. Filter should hold a quart? Dave

I think the dry capacity would fill the engine from new. The oil cooler doesn't completely drain when you dump it and leaves a little in the system. Thats probably the extra litre.. I have only done one change on it so far, the next one is today.. Won't do that again!!

I notice in your signature you use an ez drain plug. I'm not familliar with these but I looked at them on Geno's site. Is it possible these things stick up in the pan a little and do not allow all the oil to drain? And the always ask, is your truck level or tilted to the drain when you change oil? Hope you get it figured out.

I just changed my oil today. After 4,000 miles I removed about 3 1/2 gallons. I never wait for the oil change indicator but change oil instead at about 3-4k intervals. I don't feel comfortable with the oil level rising so much in such a short mileage period. This is the first vehicle I've owned that actually "makes" oil.
I'm seriously considering removing about a quart of oil every 1.5k miles or so in order to keep the level from rising too much (the Fumoto drain valve makes this easy). As one guy on this thread said, too much oil is VERY bad for the engine. Still love the truck, though.... ![]()

ever 4k is way over kill. I got to 9k before I change mine. Also you got to be careful, not having enough and having too much oil is just as bad. Both will not allow proper lubrication.

Let's see, to get fewer emissions the guvment has mandated emissions controls. Now I use more fuel and change my oil more often... ![]()

I read somewhere that dip sticks aren't always set in the engine the same at the factory. The 6.7 calls for 12 quarts w/filter, so 12 out, 12 back and make a mark on your stick for reference.

The EZ change oil drain plug leaves a VERY small amount of oil in the pan. I spoke with the company before I bought it and its designed to sit level with the bottom of the pan. I drained a liter out and its just under full.
Since I unplugged the EGR, the engine makes a very minimum amount of oil. I think next summer my emissions equipment might fall off... dang these rough Saskatchewan roads... |
