CC truck (305/610 vs 350/650)

Can the 4500/5500 CC be reprogrammed up to the 350/650 like the 3500 and lower trucks? Kerry

No you cant just take it to dodge and get a uprate because the emission system and computer is different from the pickups. But you can add a programmer like a XRT or Hypertech and bump the power up but your warranty would not hold with a programmer on the truck.

As you should know, when Dodge designed the 4500/5500 CC it was for use by the commerical community. They kept the HP and Torque down since they thought it would last longer because it would not be driven by the same person all the time. Dodge also limited the GCWR to 26,000lbs. That so commercial operators would not have to find and hire CDL Drivers.

I always thought that was a good sales thing, but I believe they need to build a non commercial version of this truck and rate it like the Ford F450.
Combined Gross at 34,500lbs with the big gears in the rear. The RV haulers
don't have much of a choice for the big trailers. The 3500 Dodge can tow more than the 4500 in combined weight due to its lighter weight. So its either the F-450 or a Class 6 or 7 tractor. Dodge does not enter the picture. I've sent e-mails to Dodge complaining about this many times.

So, to answer your question, and as mentioned already, Dodge will not rerate the truck, which leaves you with a programer of some type in the cab for the added power.

I personally don't think the emmisions are any differant on either engine. Now finding someone to tell you, changing the boxes will do the trick is difficult.

Emmissions are definatly different. The filter in the down pipe (Nox from memory) is absent on the C&C models. The EGR system and DPF are different as well. I have also seen, but not confirmed, that the injectors are of a different design also.

I would not get hung up on the advertised numbers, the 3500 C&C is like the 45/5500 with the 34" width frame rails and lower rating on the engine as well. Pulling with a combined weight of 24-25k against the identical truck in a standard dually like my buddies I can't see the difference. We pull identical loads and the only thing his does is ride better but he cannot out pull mine loaded. The way these trucks are set is as mentioned for pulling and mine does that well it just does not have the snap loaded my 01 did. I am a little skeptical about adding a programmer as my stock clutch failed at 1280km's, not sure how much the update version can be pushed without slipping. I just wish Dodge would have thought a little bit more about the fuel tank/ frame length on these trucks. To get the weight on the hitch right all my trailers needed the kingpin made longer to clear the tail frame.
