I was wondering if you guys were familiar or have heard of this. I recently ordered Carli coils from one of their distributors. I orderd the Carli Multi Rate Coils for Dodge Diesel trucks. I have an 02' 2500 CTD.

The coils that I received from this place are the Carli Multi Rate coils for Dodge RAM Hemi. When I questioned them about this thinking they sent the wrong part they said that these are the coils that Carli uses for the 2nd Gen Dodge RAM Diesel trucks. They said that the newer 3rd GEN Dodge trucks use the Diesel coils because they are heavier, but the 2nd Gen trucks are supposed to use the Hemi Coils?????

Anybody else heard of this or know about this or am I getting fed a line from this place.

Yeah,the Hemi coils are used on the 2nds.

Do you guys happen to know what the weight difference is on the front end of the 2nd Gen vs. 3rd Gen trucks?

The reasons I got Carli coils was because I put KORE coils on & after a year I'm not happy with them. When I first installed them they raised the truck up to level height with the back, but then after about 6 months they settled in the truck no longer is level with the back anymore. I was hoping that the Carli coils would not compress & settle as much as the KORE coils.

I had the 3rd gens by mistake and I had a wheel hop that would put you in the ditch, vilolent shaking absolutely scarry.
any way, the hemi coils are what I was sent if you measure them they are 20mm, the 3rd gens are 23mm, I just got them in last week and a huge improvement in the ride compared to the wrong springs.

further to my last:

I installed the Wrong springs in May, I put 35,000kms on them and they did not sag or settle.
After installing the wrong springs my front sat way too high, I had to lift the rear over an inch to level it, then I replaced the stock springs with new springs (top 3 leafs), edventually it sat level, then I added airbags.
with wrong springs I sat at 42inches from ground to bottom of fender, with right springs I'm at 41inches, keep in mind I have 17inch rims with 265-70-17
this is with 3rd gen carli and carli rear springs

Thanks. I didn't realize that the 3rd Gen Diesel springs caused these problems on the 2nd Gen trucks. Is there really that much of a weight difference in the engine between the 2nd & 3rd Gen trucks?

I dont think its a weight difference as much as the lower control arm angle, both gen trucks have the same engine, so I doubt its a weight thing, my lower control arms were near pointed straight down, I now measure 6inches between the pad on the lower control arm and the angle bracket on the frame, with old springs I was 7inches, one inch is a huge difference in angle

Will the Cali coil springs carry more weight then the stock? How do they compare with D-25 springs?

I haul freight, upto 2500# at a time daily, I scaled my truck once and had 2200# in the bed and I only lowered the rear 2.5inches, with my wore out suspension (and with the overloads) I'd drop over 6inches with the same load.
even fully loaded railway tracks, bumps and frost heaves feel like a little crack in the road. I've never tried or driven a truck with D25 springs, so I cant compare, but where I used to have to slow to a crawl I can now hit the same bad chunk of road at 50-60kmp (40mph) and hardly feel it, best example is when making a left turn at intersection across a 4lane road that is heavily rutted, normally you'd be tossed side to side as you cross the lane, the suspension smooths out the ruts, so that its the same as if crossing a smooth intersection with no rutts, as a driver your not tossed side to side, still surpises me every time!

carli says that their springs will sit 1/2 inch lower compared to stock with the same load

I did a quick measure off my running boards, I'm at 18.5 inches front and 20inch in the rear, I only lost an "inch" yet it does look slightly lower in the front. time will tell if it settles,

apparently Carli now instals/ships "hemi" springs on 2nd gens, according to the dealer that I got mine from. If you measure the diameter of the coil you will know for sure which spring you actually have

Michael,

You most certainly received the correct coil springs for the year of your trucks production. The reason we use our Multiple Rate Hemi Coil Springs on the 94-02 Dodge 2500/3500 is the ride quality. Utilizing the Multiple Rate Diesel Coil Spring is just a little too much rate for a 2nd Gen truck and does not ride as nice on the street as these coils do. We do not have issue with our coils sagging because we use one of the top manufacturers, which is not cheap, but gets you a quality product that stands up to the test of time.

Coil Springs are the base line that everything else is built upon, so if your coil rates are off then everything that follows will feel just a bit off as well. So getting the right rate really does play an important part in the ride quality department so to speak. If you have additional questions please don’t hesitate to call the office.

Hey Nick,

I was just wondering if you're still happy with your new springs you installed? I still have mine sitting in the box & thinking it over on what I wanted to do. Have you noticed that your springs have settled very much after installing them?
