Brake job and hubs are apart!

I know poor maint on my part got me here but...I am out of town (on Job) and the front pads are shot. Started grinding. Took it to a Midas shop (across the street) and they are say no problem they can handle it. Check in with them and they have both front hubs apart exposing the bearings!. I said "hey thats not how they come apart." He said they tried to remove the entire hub but it was stuck. They say don't worry they have done them this way before. He'll repack the bearings and all will be fine.
I'm worried!! Will they be pressed back together properly as one part is still on the knuckle?
What sign will I have that he screwed these bearings/hubs up?

Re:Brake job and hubs are apart!

My 90 350 4x4 has the two piece hub design. Hub and all has to come off to replace the rotor. I have to place the hub inverted on the wheel(wheel laying on the ground) and take the bolts out easily with a breaker bar and pipe handle. Install new rotors to torque, pack bearings, replace hub and adjust with torque wrench. I'm surprized, a lot of the muffler/brake shops don't have the proper nut wrench (at least not the 4x4). Maske sure they're not mangling the lock nuts by driving them with a hammer and screw driver. They're about $60 each, and should be adjusted to torque.

Re:Brake job and hubs are apart!

I had to turn the rotors on my 99 and when I was trying to figure out how to get the rotors off I split my left one. I just cleaned it up, repacked it, and reassembled. I've had no problems so far.

Chris

Re:Brake job and hubs are apart!

I pulled mine apart just the same way. Ended up getting new hub. > Cost me about $800 total to do my brakes and rotors. I wasn't very happy, but i wanted it done right.
