Best Preformance Cummins?

I'm looking into buying a Cummins, but I am torn for which I should purchase.

I want to build a hotrod, so I'm thinking alright, go with the ISB so I can use QSB parts for it, just go thru cummins.

Or I could get the others, are bank it with aftermarket items.

So I am asking, what are your opinions? What engine would you get for a preformance machine. Auto or Manual?

You can't use much from a QSB on an ISB.

If you like electronics, get a commonrail engine ('03-up). If you hate electricity, get a 12 valve with a p-pump ('94 -'98 Dodges).

Why would you want to use Marine parts?
Fellow chapter member just did 455HP on an 06 with just a Puck & Smarty Jr. stack. It's so easy to get power from the common rails. That would take me a whole ton of money to get there with my 99.

With marine parts they have unlimited cooling i.e. ocean. I remember when some guys put the marine cam in and were not happy. They are meant to run WOT, but a boat needs a completely different power curve than a truck. That is also why the 370 injectors on the 12v dump a ton of fuel but its easy to melt a piston as the egts get hot in a hurry. I think the 370 were originally marine injectors. Now a days parts are built specific.

Many guys are wiring in the new common rails, I don't like electricity so my ramcharger is getting my old 96 p pump 12 valve.
