Re:ATF Fluid

Check your tranny dip stick. Required fluid type is usually stamped into the stick. My 96 calls for ATF+3 fluid.

Jerry

Re:ATF Fluid

When you change your filter, do not get any dirt in the system and whatever you do, do not blow any air back in any of the passages. Just drain the fluid, change the filter, put on a new gasket, and put it back together after you clean the pan with brake cleaner and let it dry. Do not use brake cleaner on the valve body or any of the transmission internals.

You will find crunchies from ground metal and friction material in the pan, do not panic, that is normal (unless you have converted to hydraulic oil or Amsoil ATF at some time in the past).

I don't know how many times I've looked at the dipstick and never paid any attention to what was on it above the fluid level marks.

RCW- thanks for the heads up on the fluid change. I'm sure I would have been back here asking what was wrong.
