Where Are Your EGT'S?

I finally recieved one of my gauges and my pod this week and I installed my pyro tonight. When I drove around town I stayed around 350-450*. W.O.T. was 800*, while 60 mph hard throttle on a 2 lane road got to 850-900*. I here alot of 1200-1400* on this site, so I guess I'm not running alot of fuel. I guess it's a good thing it's low cause the p.o. could'nt have done any damage.

So not knowing where my boost is yet, if I go ahead and grind my plate to a 10 and slide it what can I expect my egt's to be? My truck is still a little sluggish and I want to pep it up a bit. I would like to have a pop off test and see what my injectors are doing, so how much can I expect to pay for that?

Where are your EGT's?

What is a damaging *?

Empty I see numbers real similar to yours. Maybe a little higher. Cruising at 70, around 600 on level ground. I have the timing advance that lowers EGT. My plate is about centered in the pump.

Sustaining more than 1250* is not good.

Hey Tex, No big deal on the angry post, I was just complaining a bit too much. The last thing I want to do is jepordize what a good site we have here. But anyway, I went ahead and ordered another boost gauge so if the other one comes in I'll sell it to one of you guys cheap. I noticed when I was hooking up the pyro that I had the Mopar keyless entry box under my dash. Can I get a clicker at my dealership? I also found the window sticker from the original dealer. This truck is the HD with everything stainless exhaust, and coolers and towing.... $35,000. In '96 that was alot for a truck heck it still is.

How do you like that boost elbow? Is it adjustable?

naw i have some other issues alot of ppl dont have, like i had an egr valve, and took it out, but then found out my intake horn thing, is more narrow than everyone elses, so gotta change that, then i need a bigger exhuast housing, or like a ksb-1. sure gets anoying. then i have a little trick i wana try with water mist on the intercooler to try and cool it off, along with a propane system i picked up.

Let us know on the water inject and the propane. I was considering propane but I'd like to find something out on natural gas. My family in KY have natural gas wells on their property and get free gas and I'm moving up there before too long. So a free gas source would be great. But I don't know how I could store the gas, I've seen the gas company trucks run off it though.

is your probe placed before the turbo or after the turbo.... sounds like to me that it's behind the turbo cause mine before the turbo is around 550-650 empty @ 60mph, 800-1000 towing a car on a trailer @ 70mph and 1200 or so @ WOT empty.....

I drilled and tapped my exhaust manifold on the side of the divider closest to the firewall. As amatter of fact the probe is right next to the divider. From what I read that was the best place. I did'nt pull the turbo either, I sat a strong magnet next to the drill bit and cleaned the manifold out with a pin magnet. If the probe was too close to the divider would it cause a lower temp?

What about the blow by? Anyone know?

Hey bird, you have to take your mods into consideration too. No plate and dv's, are you running a stock turbo?

blow by is the tube that comes out of the block and hangs down. some trucks puke alot of oil out of them, or have a white smoke comeing out of them, if it seems pretty clean then you should be fine.

Is the pyro an autometer? Is it slow moving? The reason I ask is because I got a bad pyro from them recently, since they had a run of bad probes. And, because your EGTs seem very low. It moves slow and does not give accurate readings. I had one of theirs and I could only get my EGTs to about 900. When I got it back from then, EGTs went thru the roof . Anyway, just something to think about. It would not be good to see a cheap pyro ruin a $2500 engine...

I've installed a lot of pyros and have never had one read as low as yours cruising around. Something is wrong, you should see at least 500 unless you're coasting downhill. Either the pyro is bad or it's installed with the probe tip touching the manifold. Either too deep or cockeyed.
