thanks Kevin,
I am trouble shooting a new F750 with a CR at work (no start) and our scanner wont link up to the new truck (They changed the plug on this year truck so we need to buy a new pigtail)
any way I cracked the line on the injector and it did have fuel but it defiantly did not seem like 3000+.......do you think it lost a pump???
this truck only has 4,000 hours on it

Just because you cant attain rail pressure doesnt always mean you lost the pump.I know a few guys who had a bad injector, and it leaked enough that the pump couldnt build enough pressure to start the engine on the other 5 cylinders. It would fire with ether though, and once running stay running.

I know the real way to diagnose this is a scan tool but ours was not updated yet.
BTW- ether in a diesel is a big NO,NO

Yeah I would personally go after the fuel injector ideal, I had a similar problem not too long ago. I had 2 bad injectors. I beleive that they will fire with 1 bad injector, but not with 2. There is a drain back test that you can perform to test this, but you would have to ask someone else how to do it and the proper volumes. I had my freind do it on my truck and I cant remember every little detail. But that is how we determined the bad injectors
you need to have over 2500 psi to fire, and a couple of bad injectors will not allow this to happen

That's for sure!
Back in the day when we had to fire off the PowerChokes in the winter, I always made sure I was the key-man (not the sprayer )... still, you get a much better view of exploding air filters from outside the cab, though.

If you spray to much into the engine it over revs the engine and can cause some serous engine damage.
It's not a guarantee but it is a possibility.
I have co-workers who use it all the time on our diesels with no problems but all you need to do is listen to how hard the engine hits and you know it is hard on them.
old diesel's seem to handle it better but a 24v CTD will make a heck of a lot of noise when started on ether.

I know a guy how exploded the air filter on a Dmax. I thought is was common practice on older diesels but I have heard it does do some type of damage to where if you ever start usin it, it gets to where the motor is hard to start without it.

Ether on a Dmax is no good unless you disable the glow plugs.I heard the old detroit 2 strokes would eventually split the cyl liners if you uses too much ether.I have used it many times, just a tiny whiff will do with the detriots. You can use it with our trucks, provided you knwo what your doing and disable the intake heaters ,and glow plugs if its a Ford or Chevy.

sorry i forgot to specify, you need to disable to intake heaters to use ether in our pickups! If not and they cycle ,ether goes kaboom at around 300 degrees, the grid heaters operate over 800 degrees.
