Yellow Box speedo re-calibrator
New member here.
Just bought a used 06 Mega Cab with 315 BFG MTs, and the speedo is way off, of course.
Has anyone tried this?:
http://www.blackrobotics.com/yb_home.htm
(Dealer wants $99 to get it recalibrated, but they can get "close", since the biggest they can reprogram is for 285 tires)
Thanks in advance for your replies,
Tex

The speedo is about 10% off so the conversion math is easy. Many here just keep in mind that 60 indicated is realy close to 66 mpg, 65 indicated is close to 71. You also get 10% more warrantee miles :-) .

Yeah, but aren't the shift points out of whack if the speedo is off?

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
Not really. Shift points are based on several inputs such as line pressure, RPM, etc. Not really based off of actual MPH.

Still, I would like to have an accurate speedo, so if anyone has experience with the yellow box, please let me know if it works as advertised.

I can't comment on the exact module they use for these trucks. However, I can say that the Black Robotics stuff has served me well in the past. I installed their units on different motorcycles (including my own) due to sprocket changes that can wipe a speedo off by more than 25% in some cases. The units work VERY well and once you figure out the percentage your aftermarket combo differs from stock it's a pretty easy calibration. It's just an algorythym computer so the computation is no feat of magic, but the components I've dealt with from them were very solid with good instructions.
I miss the days that we just changed out the speedo drive gear in the tranny
Sorry, can't be of more help than that.
