XZT2: Still good stuff?

I have the Quad XZT2 (standard tow module) for my 06. I had it hooked up for a while, and enjoyed the power, and increased economy. But after reading posts about how it drained rails, how pressure isn't all that good, and causing strange running problems, I disconnected it. With all the talk about SMARTY, and the new Quad products, it seems that the standard XZT2 doesn't get much feedback anymore. The only mod I have to the truck is an MBRP replacement muffler. Is the XZT2 ok to run with no EGT gauge?

I have done hours (almost days) of searching on programmers and modules, but it's so difficult to figure out what's good, and what's not.

I think what was happening is the Quad fuel pressure unit ( not rail pressure) could draw down to 0 with the canister mounted fuel pump 03 and 04. Several member checked the pressure with a mechanical gauge and found the Commander was reading low. The Commander has an adjustment were you can correct the reading.

Your 06 has an intank fuel pump and it holds pressure better than the canister mounted pump. Rail pressure is more concerned with volume than pressure. I do not remember anyone with an XZT complain that the volume dropped low enough to drain the rail.

In December there were problems with the server on the Quad site that effected downloads on the X2 series. This problem has been addressed.

Point being if you did not download any updates you are good to go . If you did download then delete your old file and try again. IMO your XZT cannot drain your rail.

"Is the XZT2 ok to run with no EGT gauge?"

I've always used Westach EGT gauges, so I'll pick up one for the CTD. I wasn't sure if the ORIGINAL XZT2 drove the EGT's up high or not. The drivability towing and empty is awesome with the module, so I want to play it safe.

FWIW, this one is the original module - not the USB updateable new one.
