What is wrong with my tranny???

ok, first off it won't shift into park anymore. you have to push up really hard on the shifter to get it to stay in park, and I can not start my truck in park, I have to shift it into neutral to start it. I checked the column and the linkage that goes to the trans, and all that is fine. I think its something inside the tranny. Second, it won't shift out of first gear unless I let off the throttle. it doesn't matter how much gas youre giving it either. it won't shift. Has my transmission gone south?

thanks!

Well I hate to see help posts go unanswered so here is my 2 cents,in your signature I notice a TC switch, how many times{ if }any have you let it chug a lug with it locked up? Do you use it as some will say here responsibly? I am saying this as when it is used it is hard on the trans when shifting up thru the gears and when letting it lug down when forgeting to switch it off would and could do some damage to your trans. If all the linkage's are ok it has to be in the trans. As far as the shifting out of first, sounds like a Govenor solenoid/press. transducer problem. You might have some luck calling one of the popular trans guys that most use here on this site. Goodluck, Rick

Since you say it won't start in P it seems to me it must be a linkage problem.

By chance did you check your engine mounts and the tranny mount? If they move it could move things enough to give you problems.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but that's exactly what mine did.

$3000 trans rebuild

Hope you are luckier than I was!

I can't let it lug down, because when I tap the brake it unlocks because I have it wired up to the brake switch too. I have locked it up a little early once or twice to smoke someone out bad but only once or twice. most of the time I drive to work and back, and not on the highway.

Mis-adjusted TV Cable, and Gear Selector on the tranny. Look for loose nuts around the tranny (don't need crazy people under your truck , and then, make sure the gear selector arm is not loose.

The 1st Gear problem, sounds like a TV Cable going out of adjustment, or a dirty solenoid in the tranny.

Yes,, But,, don't ask me how. I've never had the privledge of doing one.

Might want to look here on the forums. I think they have an article on how to adjust the Throttle Valve Cable.
