Would you buy a Chrysler buy-back?

I found a 07 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 that I was really interested in buying. The truck seems fine but it turns out that Chrysler had to buy it back from its original owner. The salesman said that it was because the check engine light kept coming on. I left it because I don’t want to buy a problem child, but it sure does seem like a nice truck.

Wouldn't touch it.Late 07 was the experimental year.I read on this forum just lately that their have been many improvements in the emissions equipment since 07 when they first changed everthing. Most of the lemoned trucks are most likely late 07s.Chrysler won't upgrade you to anything new emissions wise without you paying for it,and as all that stuff ages and wears out you better have a fat wallet!

Exactally!! If it was super cheap, pick it up and stuff a delete kit under it with an Edge/Attitude and you are golden!! All these buybacks were emisions related

What state do you live in? If you're somewhere where you don't have to get emissions tested, or if you can register the truck somewhere that doesn't have the testing, I think it would be worthwhile if you can get it cheap enough. Where did you find this truck? Independent used car dealership?

Wouldn't think twice about it. Do it. Just watch your driving habits.

Before they can resell a buy back it will be fixed. Also ask about the warranty it comes with. The price is normally very affordable on the buyback. It all depends on the individual deal

Screw the warranty. Get a steal of a deal on it, and tell them they can keep their worthless warranty. Take a little of the massive savings you should get and delete all of the EPA mandated BS. That truck will run a LOONNNGGG time!! Have a dealer run the warranty history so you know exactly what the issues were. If it was just soot related, I would jump on a deal like that. I could have started the buyback on mine from the number of emissions related visits it had to the dealer. Sure glad I didn't! Truck is awesome with the deletes and haven't had a hiccup since. Not one single cel. GO FOR IT!!

I would buy it seeing that I actually bought one myself. My mega cab was a buyback because of the 1-2 shutter. I have all paper work showing that the transmission was out and torn apart 4 times before 12,000 miles. I bought it with like 18,000 miles on it. The dealership ripped it apart before I bought it and couldnt find any problems. So I purchased it, and within the next 3 weeks dodge but out the TSB to aid in the shutter shift problem. No problems at all now, and I love that beast! I would do it again.

Question

Question...how are you guys getting these emission trucks inspected without any emission stuff on it? The inspection garage knows they're not being used "off road" and are not registered that way.

Well, here in good ole Texas there are no emissions testing for diesels vehicles. Not in any county, nor any diesel. It's a safety inspection only and still costs a measly $12.50 per year. Gotta love it!!

Price would be my biggest concern. I looked at a 07 buy back with 22k on it there was mud packed all in the frame. Then I bought a new one for 1k more than they wanted for the buy back. If it isn't 7k cheaper than a new truck don't bother or 3-4k cheeper than a similar used truck.

I'm with these guys. After owning one and learning how to get around the problems, these trucks are great. I looked long and hard trying to find a buyback but the guys selling them were still asking top dollar. I just wasn't paying that so I ended up with my 04....

I back to looking at the same truck. My salesman just told me that the emissions haven’t been changed on the truck and the 2007 emissions are the same as the 2009 emissions. Is that correct? Also, the truck really isn’t any cheaper then other 2007 Rams.
