What would be the reason for timing jump?
I set the timing at 16* this evening and went for a road tese and the truck ran great for the first few miles then it started smoking like crazy and running terrible. It was the first drive with new injectors, timing set, and a govenotr spring kit. I was wondering what the problem was and my brother suggested that the timing jumped. I checked that first and sure enough it was at 3.4 mm I reset it at 16* but haven't started the truck yet. I'm sure that was the problem but I would like some input on what caused it. I torqued it to 150 ftlbs but the nut broke loose real easy. Did I miss something? The thrust washer was still there and looked fine. Could I have a bum torque wrench?

Like was said, make sure shaft is clean (brake clean or some contact, No Flash works AWESOME), torque the shaft to 140, then to 160, then I go to 180. No slippage yet.

I didn't use a new lock washer. none of the instructions I found said anything about the new lock washer. I put a hundred or so miles on it and it is still running fine. I might check it when I do my dad's but it seems to be fine. I torqued it to probably 165-170 in 3 or 4 stages and it worked fine, but thanks. Now I know.
