Would CARDBOARD in front of rad cause HIGH EGTS?

As you all know I recently added a edge juice attitude to my truck below. My egts get to 1450 on level 0 stock. 1-6 is progressively worse. My question is here in Canada its -50 right now and i have 2 layers of cardboard covering front end. Could this be why my EGTS are shooting up? should I remove the cardboard?

any1 else have a idea on this? I need to cover the rad entirely because these engines warm up like $%#@

I have cut the cardboard down to about 2/3 the size of the rad, and bet the top at a 90* angle and slid it down right in front of the rad, actually behind all of the other coolers. Worked great!

try it out the vzdude way ... it'll keep the EGTs cool and help keep the engine at proper operating temps (since it's so stinking cold where you are now).

sallyman, the temps are not nearly here what they are there but i have the cardboard between the radiator and the intercooler. Keeps the air flowing thru the IC but hold back on the radiator to keep it warmed up. i had about a 14in square cut out of the center (kept trimmin til the temp was reasonable and not getting hot). went to Idaho for Xmas and say below 0 a few times and it worked great.

You guys might be interested in our Winter Front Delete/Thermostat Bypass... it allows you to instantly adjust the amount of radiator "block-off" from 0-100% according to the outside air temperature.

At -50 the inner cooler is not needed near as much. The temperature increase from the turbo would end up being less then a cooled discharge from a turbo on a +30 day.

You have the attitude so adjust the display to show intake temperature. This will be after the inner cooler so you can compare that temp to what the ambient temp is.

Could you explain how that works? On my truck the IAT sensor is hanging off of my AFE tube which is before the IC. Just wondering if the 06-newer have something we don't. I highly doubt it but you never know.

The MAP sensor has temperature and pressure at the intake manifold on the 06. If this is not a feature of the 04.5, sorry for the miss information.

YES, it it a feature on 04.5




SALLY,
I would highly suggest This, it does run about $100 at your local dealer but its money well spent!!!

The front is has 4 flaps and you have the option to open any or all of them. Also it mounts under the hood so you can't even see it.

So the OBD2 data stream has two intake air temps one from the MAP sensor and one from the IAT? I always thought the MAP had to have one only for absolute pressure readings but that the temp was not used or referenced in any other way. However, upon thinking about it, the Juice is only plugged into the MAP sensor on the 04.5 so I guess the only intake air temp it sees is the correction for the MAP. SO, do the 06 and up trucks that plug into the OBD2 connector actually get to see the difference between the IAT and MAP corrected intake temp? If they do, then you could really do a comprehensive test on IC before and afters. Learning.....
