worried 48re???
My truck is an early 04' with the mods in my sig, after reading all the horrid stories about the 48re not handleing any power over stock i am scared to even give my truck half pedal ever cause i run the predator programmer on extreme all the time cause i drive at least 60 miles a day with my commute to work and school cause it gets great mpg's on that tune, i also tow with the tuner on extreme unless towing over 20k ill turn the truck back to stock, i always watch my guages and never let egt temps hit over 1000 deg for pulling, when pulling i probably never even see more than a quarter pedal and when empty i never use more than half pedal, tranny temps around 180 in stop and go and 160 on the highway in over 100 deg heat outside, is my tranny at horrible risk? i never have felt it slip even at WOT, and baby the truck to the point that everyone makes fun of me for goin so slow haha, and one fo my buddies says my truck sucks at pulling cause i am barely doin the speed limit lol, it will pull anything i want behind it as fast as i want, i know it can pull a house down and it doesnt mean that i want to run it hard i just dont want to hurt the tranny.

What is great mileage on extreme? I have about the same commute in similar climate with a very similar truck and would like to know if I can beat 21 mpg at 65 mph on the performance tune. Thats what I got last time I stayed right at the speed limit for a long trip. FWIW my tranny wont lock if I give her the beans on the performance tune. I have to let out so it will quit slipping, so I just dont give her the beans!

i see around 20mpgs hand calculated, 24.5mpgs on overhead driving it really easily not gettin on it, mainly highway milage but probably 25% city driving also, i know that the power that my truck puts down is capable of DESTROYING my 48re, if i dont really use the power and am very easy on it 99.9% of driving it how worried should i be or should i not be, i am incredibly easy on it, i floor it maybe once a month never boost launch or race and am overall very easy on my truck, tranny fluid change every 10k is what i have been doin.

i know your worries however these transmission are much stronger than every says. The only reasons they die prematurely is from abuse with lots of hp&tq. Under some circumstances these part break earlier on other truck than others since not all trucks are built equally.
You risk having a problem running the extreme program with no transmission work done, even if you do drive slower and smarter the real killer is low-end tq. This can be the stock trannies biggest nightmare. Don't get me wrong these trucks can handle a lot of power, but towing/daily driving with the extreme tune can be rough. Try turning it down a level and if you want more power roll the go pedal its easier on your trans. The extreme programs are meant to be used with atleast some upgrades.
To save some headache troubles i would atleast get a VB or shift ki. Since your almost at 100k though i say get the Torque Converter and clutch rebuild while your in there. That way you should have no problems running a daily driver and towing heavy unless you start sled-pulling/drag racing, than billet parts would be necesarry.
Then again these are my suggestions only. I run a shift kit with some parts from Goerend. I judge that the distance to when i have to get the same parts isn't far off but at much lower milage. This truck has had extra power after the first three months i owned it (2400miles). 2 and a half years and 24k later i can make my TQ slip from on my 100hp tune but rarely happens.
Also i see your not running another fuel filter setup and the Diablo can run high pressures. These two can lead to injector troubles and would run one now even though there may already be some damage.

Don't sweat the trans too much, they are pretty tough. Abused mine for 50k with 90 hp and bigger tires and still was over 100k before had any problems. A good cheap upgrade is a shift kit if you can swing it. Then you will be good for a lot more fun.

Yep they'll shake your teeth out unloaded, and i ment no disrespect by the light duty thing. You were just talking about being worried about the trans and those kind of loads on a truck not designed/equiped for it are rough on it. I've been quilty of pulling the same 20k+ loads with my 2500, but thats what the 5500 in the shop is for now

You don't need to baby your transmission, just don't abuse it. The 48RE is pretty tough.
I do recommend that you start a regular maintenance program with it if you haven't already. You should drop the pan, change the trans filter and refill with fresh ATF+4. I do this every 20K miles.
Start saving money for some trans upgrades on down the road. Then you will have the money set aside if something does go wrong or you want to play with peace of mind.
