Is this how it works?
Hey folks hope everyone is having a good day. I want to run a story by ya to see what everyone thinks. I replaced my VP44 about three months ago and everything went great. Then I noticed there was excessive blow by coming from the engine. Just after that I noticed while stopped and the motor running I had a diesel smell only on the drivers side and in the cab. Found today that the #6 cylinder fuel line was leaking at the head. Loosened it, cleaned it, tightened it back and no leak. I have driven it about three times now and haven't had any blow by since. Could air being sucked into the system from there of been the culprit for the excessive blow by?? I understand excessive blow by can be caused by piston ring wear but what are the other problems that can make the amount of oil blow by more than usual?? Thanks,

I can't believe it was sucking enough air by the loose injector line to cause that much pressure differential, especially with the turbo packing charged air in the system. Any air would also have to get by fuel pressurized in the line that was getting out.
Is your puke bottle clear? Any other symptoms like discolored or excessive exhaust?
