I hope you guys can help us figure out what the problem is. My father has a 95 12v, 5 speed Cummins. Theres 2 new batteries in it but it wont start. It will turn over a couple times but thats all she gives. All the lights work but it just wont fire up. Hopefully its just something simple we are overlooking. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Diesels need to turn over fast to start [ unlike a gasser ] .
So start with new batteries , they need to be the same age & rating , but in a pinch 2 good batteries will start it , its comin that , if you have just one bad/dead battery that you cannot jump start , all the power goes to the dead cell , of more correctly will not pass through .

new here but not new to the oil on my hands this is a simple prob you have there it is the starter even with new batts if starter is not drawing in the neighborhood of 100 amps then the truck will not start you may can pull start it and if it fires up after it has run for awhile then look at the heater as long as you got fuel hot wire to pump and air they will run

luck to ya David

I missed that you had new batteries but caught on to that the starter turn just a few times .
That made me think of bad batteries , I forgot to tell you what I aways try to keep in mind , that is aways test 1st & then put in only the parts that are bad ,
a lot of the do it yourself parts houses will do free testing to help sell parts , so get a load test on everything , batteries [ I've been at parts houses when a hole truck load of them came in defective ] , starter , alternator & look for bad [ dirty connections ] .
But thats back to my assuming that I'm getting what your saying , it turns over a few times then stops turning over ?
