Winch mount design

I have recently picked up my 2500 CTD HO SLT Sport. The Sport bumper, looks so good that I don't want to take it off. I was thinking of designing a bracket that will hold my Warn 12K winch that attaches to the mounting spots for the tow hooks. Does anyone have any concerns with this mounting position? Any alternate ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

Re:Winch mount design

been considering the same thing but just installed a warn light bar that goes there warn also make a front reciever that may or maynot fit. not sure if that mointing point would be all that strong when winching out ur truck from a good stuck.

if u come up with anything let me know

I would think the point where the hooks go is fine. I installed hooks on my other 03 and where the hooks bolt to is all frame. What else would you want to bolt to?

Re:Winch mount design

if i remember correctly the brackets that hold the hooks ar mounted to the frame where the bumper mounts. I would rather eliminate the tow hook brackets and go right to the frame 1 less place to have any problems especially when trying to winch an 8000lbs truck from a good stuck.

Re:Winch mount design

Rifleman, I used a Warn Trans4mer kit for mounting my 12000# winch (also Warn). The kit replaces the bumper support brackets (and thereby the hooks) with various pieces of steel superstructure and you drill/bolt to the front section of the frame directly. Lots of steel and Gr 5 bolts ... this is a pretty strong design. The kit is designed for up to a 15000# winch so it's no lightweight.
Personally I would hesitiate to rely on the relatively small bolts holes and thinner supporting steel that makes up the OEM hook and bumper support for a 12000# winch and get a kit that is designed for this.

Do you have any pics of this? I would like to add some extra lighting, but haven't really liked anything I've seen so far, was thinking about building something myself, but Warn usually does a pretty good job.

The bar fits and looks nice. Ive had push bars and grill guards which become a hassle to clean around JMO. but this is simple and looks good. The only drawback i have noticed is it only comes one color an argent silver i had my powder coated black to match the truck. i'll post some photos later.

Steve034x4,
Do you have pics of the Trans4mer on your truck? I haven't seen any good pictures of this setup on a Dodge.

Thanks,
Rifleman

Sorry, Rifleman...I don't have a digital camera yet and no easy access to a scanner either. I'll try to find/borrow one and will post.
