Question Wild truck shakes violently when going over tracks?

Hi, I have a 2006 5.9 quad cab 2500. It has 35,000 miles on it and bf all terrain tires. Truck is factory. I was driving to work and I was a little late. I was going around 75mph. I crossed a set of railway tracks and the truck just started to shake violently. I thought I was going to loose control. I was hoping it was going to just stop but I had to slow down and tap brakes to get it under control. It took about a city block length to stop it. I thought the truck was done. It seemed to be ok after that but I notice it wanting to shake a little more when I go over different bumps on the road. The only way to explain it was like someone hitting a tuning fork but more. I never seen this before and it scared the crap out of me. Is their any advise on how to fix this issue. The truck has no warranty because I bought it in the U.S. and its in Canada. I have no problem trying to fix it just looking for some help on what it might be. The truck was also empty, noting in the box. Thanks for any help.

Death wobble ...no known 100% cure , or reason why it happens to some trucks , and not others. There are some contributing factors , like having a leveling kit , and 315 BFG tires....but then again there are lots of people with no problems that have them as well.

Do a search on death wobble , and you`ll get TONS of info. on it.

If the truck is completely stock, it will most likely be cured on your truck by losing the BFG tires. The sidewall on bfg tires is quite flimsy compared to other brands. I ran them on mine but will never buy another set. It only got worse for me and got to be very frequent.

Check your track bar. Have someone turn the wheel from side to side and watch the upper end of the track bar. If you see any movement it's toast.
This happened to me on my '98 12 valve 4X4 going over railroad tracks and it was the track bar. -Glen

Do you have a long bed. I would check your carrier hanger and u-joints. Otherwise, I thing you have had your first experience with death wobble and it requires at least a ball joint replacement sooner or later, so I would start looking at ball joints too. .

I have been lucky so far and not have had the death wobble yet. I did have a u-joint go in the carrier and it also shock the truck. My wife was driving the time it happened and it scared both of us since we were coming off of a freeway exit into Rapid City and heading into downtown noonday traffic.
