Wild Smarty/TST PM 3 CR/62/12-WOW!!

As many of you know, I purchased a new 2006 Dodge CTD CR, QC, SB, 4X4 Auto, late last summer and have been steadily doing modifications to this truck since I got it. I started with a full set of gauges, then had the auto tranny completely built and at Christmas received the new "TST PM 3 CR" with the R-49 and all prior programs. Within the last three weeks, with the help of Bobby Downes, we installed a Schwitzer 62/12 Turbo to replace my stock HY-35/9. After the install of this Schwitzer 62/12, I was disappointed to find that the truck had very noticeable "bottom-end lag" compared to the stock turbo. IMO, this "lag" was worse than what I had experienced going from a HY-35/9 on my 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve to a Piers HX-40/16 with similar type fueling modules, transmission etc. In talking with Bobby (dperf) my Son John Jr. (banshee), Cris Sonichsen (masonic-dodge) I was told that the Smarty would definitely take care of the "bottom-end lag" problem I now had with the Schwitzer 62/12.

So, with this information, I ordered a "Smarty" from Lary Ellis (Top) here on the DTR, from the DTR Store. The Smarty came with the "Wild" Program and I finally got a chance to install this program in my 2006 over the weekend.
After loading the program into my 2006, I started the truck up and put it in gear and IMMEDIATELY could feel a HUGE difference in the throttle response from the truck! Upon pulling out onto the road, I also noticed that all the "bottom-end lag" that I had felt before was now GONE!! I drove around easy for awhile, but as soon as the truck warmed up decided to "get into it!" I turned right off a side road onto a main highway and floored it and the tires immediately started spinning and squealing and kept doing that until I let off the throttle!! Honestly,....I was pretty surprised at the difference this Smarty made to my truck!! After this, I tried "flooring" the truck "from a roll" at around 30-40 MPH and the tires broke loose doing that too!! I felt like I was back in my Twin Turbo 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve!!

I haven't had a chance to get to the dyno or to the dragstrip with the truck yet, but will do that as soon as possible and give you guys a full report. FWIW,.....about a month ago I did dyno my 2006 on a "Dynojet 248C" and with my TST PM 3 CR, the STOCK Turbo and an AFE Cold Air Intake I put down 460 H.P. The truck has MUCH more power now and I anticipate being able to break 500 H.P. now. Very impressive!

I want to thank Marco and Stefano for a GREAT product and also Bob Wagner for all his continued patience and input on this website in answering all the questions like he does and for his continued updates of new Smarty Products. Bob,.....you have the "Patience of Job" sometimes!

Finally, my thanks to Lary Ellis (Top) for offering such a great product right here on Diesel Truck Resource!!

Wait until the new "Hot" Smarty program comes out. I bet you'll need new tires before long. I've never heard of the Schwitzer turbo. How does it compare to others on the market?

That Wild Smarty is awesome. I have trouble not breaking traction with my 40's.

Now you might drive the '06 a little more.

t-boe:

It is similar to the ones that HTT and Industrial Injection build. IMO, it is a pretty tough turbo with a larger shaft than that of the Holset HX-40/16's that I have used in my 1996 and 2002 Dodge CTD Trucks.

Yeah buddy, your right, that "Smarty" will DEFINITELY put a "smile" on your face!

Hey John P, I have not done any mods to my truck except intake and exhaust. If I install the smarty and kept my foot out of it along with keeping the program on the lite side, would it trash the tranny quickly or could I actually run it without destroying it with only an occasional romp on the wild side? You would be fine with stock torque managment, but wild, even on 1 will kill the stocker. Its REEEAAAAALLLLY touchy

53 ****** and TexasCTD:

Thanks for your nice comments! I will definitely let you guys know when I have some more dyno numbers/drag strip times for comparison etc.

kurt b:

I agree with what DTR Member "SPEEDSHIFT" has already told you. I would NOT use the "Smarty Wild Program" on your truck with the stock transmission! Absolutely not! IMO,....you would be asking for trouble there kurt.
