Why a SWB???
Guys,
I just have to ask all of you who have a shortbed... why???
I've never owned a shortbed and most likely never will. To me they are just so much less functional. You can't load drywall, plywood, etc. in large quantities, if you have a tool box or chest you effectively eliminate even more of the functional cargo space, if you have motocross bikes you can't close the tailgate (ask me why that is a bad thing!), and the biggest one of all.... the shorter wheel base trucks naturally ride rougher.
So what's the deal. I'm not bashing you guys, just trying to understand why shortbeds even exist and further why you guys chose them. If you couldn't tell I'm a little on the thick headed side!

Fit in the garage, (moot point now though)
fit in parking spaces,
don't take up all 4 lanes to do a U-turn,
no 3 point turns on tight backroad switchbacks.
Daily driver, so I didn't need a longbed.
Of course, hindsight being 20/20, I wish I would have got one.

Well, I'm glad you asked. I owned a longbed and now I have a shortbed. I will never own another long bed because my shortbed does 100% of the things I need. I don't haul much with mine but I tow trailers, and you all can have your long beds because it don't take me a 50 acre field to turn my rig around. Thats my 2 cents.

my first trucks were long beds... my last two have been short beds. They do everything I need them to and I can actually park them...
you ever try going over Cinnamon pass in a quad/club long bed! LOL! switchback city!

Parking, maneuverable, better offroad and I like the way they look. I have m101 military trailer that I haul stuff with if it won't fit in my truck.
I also work downtown Seattle sometimes and I have a better chance of finding a parallel parking spot with a shortbed.

Long bed trucks are males. ???
Short bed trucks are females. ???
Just kidding....
I've never owned a short bed.
I can park and turn around without any problems. I can also haul more and use my 10 1/2" Coachmen truck camper while pulling a boat.
NOT bashing you short guys, I guess if you don't need the extra length to get the job done why buy it.

I think it comes down to functionality vs drivability. I do not use my truck as a full time work truck or I would definitely get a long bed. My swb pulls the same 24tt and basstracker that my LB does, only is better for drivability. I love being able to not need a 1/4 acre to turn around in town. It looks better also IMHO. Most people should probably get a long bed. I do miss my 93 cummins long bed when getting firewood.

I prefer my SWB for looks, ease to manuver, not so much truck sticking out to catch errant shopping carts at the store parking lots. It's easier to wash & wax, doesn't have that pesky carrier bearing and 2 piece driveshaft. Kinda like the difference between a station wagon and a sport coupe.
Ol' Rastus is a Extended Cab Longbed, I don't need that much truck.
Sorry I can't haul yer 8ft. anything
