Why is my exhaust starting to smell bad?
My 03 has started to have a real bad exhaust smell. I've mainly noticed this while walking by the tailpipe while the truck is idling. It is bad enough to make you wonder how unhealthy it is to inhale, kind of makes your eyes water. I did a search on here. I use rotella, am probably due for a change of oil. I have everything stock as far as exhaust. Is it most likely the catalytic converter? I am not real familiar with the exhaust, does it need to be cut out?
Chris
Oh yeah, got about 84000 miles on truck.

Is oil level going down or coolant level? Is color of exhaust smoke white or blue when engine is started? Any lack of power or knock type noises under load?

I've been in love with the smell of diesel exhaust since I was a kid. I can't imagine what you're considering a bad smell. Most '03 models came with no catalyst unless it was sent to California . Mine burns a little rich when she's turned up...enough to burn your eyes burn if you dare stare into the exhaust pipe ....you guys know who you are!!! I just can't imagine what might make your cologne smell bad?

Could be fuel related too. Mine smells different depending on what I'm running in the tank. Bio-diesel, 2cly fuel additive, WMO, ect... all smells a little different. My favorite smell is WMO... has a nice black cloud to it too!
