Question Why did you buy 3rd gen?

OK, ALL you 3rd gen guys/gals. I have been stewing over these questions for some time now. I met a Guy the other day with a 07' 5.9 QC 2500 4x4 auto in RED, I say to him " Cool truck How are you liking the new emissions stuff?" HE says "I do not know anything about that, I just wanted something to tow and haul family with and this was the prettiest one the salesman could show me so I took it" so I say "Ya, but you love the cummins don't ya?" he says " Well the diesel motor was the best for towing and it happened to be red so I am happy, it gets me there and back" WHAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I have made up this poll to get a cross section of Why you bought a CTD 3rd Gen. If I didn't include an Option let me know. Now get out there and VOTE!!

D-C out!

First of all, I had a 97 5spd 3.54 and needed lower gears. Second, I wanted a QC, BADDD! The duals, quieter engine, brakes and steering were icing on the cake! Craig

I wanted vastly improved braking, steering, lower noise and improved reliability. After dumping $4,000+ into the old auto a manual was a must. No issues so far.

I wanted something quiet, roomy, and could pull a trailer while getting good fuel economy.

dieselcarpenter, were you really that surprised about his answer? I'd bet money that most people buy their trucks because they look good.

Have you driven a 3rd gen? I see that you have a 1st gen, I have driven a 1st gen and the difference between yours and mine is night and day. Not saying that yours is a bad truck but the difference of ten years of chassis engineering is big. The only reason to buy a 1st gen is because of the Cummins.

Ya but I was going to shell out almost 50 k for a truck I would expect my self to know more about it than the fact that it s easy on the eyes and it can haul a lot.

PS I bought my truck because it was all I can afford and still have a cummins. I love all years, I wouldn't get 98.5 -02 though, only 12v and CR's for me. Some day I will be a regular in the 3rd gen side but for now I am really enjoying my rig.

Got it. I guess I read a little further into your post than you were intending.

All I knew when I bought my truck was that the Cummins was a good motor. My Dad had a '98 with the Cummins and pulled all kinds of stuff so when the time came for me to get one that's the choice I made.

I probably should have known a lot more about the truck when I bought it but at least I didn't make the mistake of getting a 6.0 Ford. I looked at the Duramax and liked it but the price was too high, body was ugly and way too low for the wilderness I was going to take my camper.

Hey, thats why we are all here right? An overwhelming love of all things cummins? And your right, 6.0 powerjoke would have been a disaster!
Glad you chose the only real diesel engine out there! Once we get a taste we all become Cummins fanatics, although there have been some deserter's of late.

HO's have more POWER. With EFI you can add a remote starter. Also, 3rd gens have 4 wheel disc brakes. And they ride better.

my dirt bag brother owns 4 CTD's (91,93,94 and 07) and he talked me into selling my 06 crew cab dually (dmax) and my vette to get this truck. Glad I did. I guess he aint no dirt bag now! lol.... I also like the fast of NO egr valve and other emissions crap to set check engine lights and it is easier to BOMB!!!!

I had been looking at new trucks for over a year, when the 2006 models came out, saw the Mega Cab and said THAT'S GOING TO BE WHAT I BUY. It is my first diesel and the Cummins reputation far exceeded all the others. So, from a lifetime of Fords I made the move.

I wanted the 6-speed, roomy interior, something that would haul whatever I could hitch up to it with the greatest of ease. I am VERY HAPPY with my choice. I am glad I waited and did my homework, just a great truck.
