Why the big price difference on VP44's
Why is there such a big price difference between suppliers of the VP44's?
They all say buy mine it's better, but the prices are $6-800.00 different.
Blue chip for example has their VP44X which is supposed to give more timing for better fuel mileage. But isn't that what my smarty does?
Who can you trust?
I need to order one today, because this is my work truck. Cant be driving my Roadrunner to job sites!
I am running RV275's, a Smarty, and have an AirDog system installed. it has just under 217k on it now. Installed a Goerand Tranny last year, and just had it painted last month. So I have dropped a good bit of money on it in the last year.
The wife is threatening to trade it next time I go out of town on business. She hates it LOL says it rides like the John Deere LOL. My arguement is it is paid for and she doesn't have to drive it.
Needless to say I need to spend as little as possible for a pump.

Is your's dead or having issues? Some time folks luck out and the TPS or APPS sensor goes out. Some of the cheaper ones come from china those I would be afraid of as who knows if have checked the computer and what tolernce they us.
Blue Chips have died to. All of them eventually die at some point. Some just take longer than others.
Just make sure they an authorized bosch rebuilder. Better chances of quality work and the computer being thourghly tested or replaced.

I picked up mine from thedieselstore.com 3 years ago, one of the cheaper ones i think $1049. Have had no problems and the pump wire has been tapped for 2 years. Its all a shake of the dice but these are good guys with good prices.

From my hard starting thread. ( https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...x-t275347.html )
Read the codes with my smarty.
P0251 Fuel Injection Pump Mechanical Failure Fuel Valve Feedback Circuit
P0252 Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control "A" Range/Performance
P1688 Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure
P1693 Generic fault indicating a fault in the bus or PCM/ECM interface
P0602 Control Module Programming Error/NotProgrammed
Cleared the codes and put the stock flash back in.
Fired it off and the same thing happened. Checked the codes and it had rewritten all of them again.
So yes, I think it is dead.....

How can you be sure you get new electronics? That would be my primary concern. I have heard of too many horror stories of people getting rebuild pumps, but that have used electronics which could only last a little while longer.

This has been covered a number of times. All authorized Bosch rebuildes use the same rebuild kits with the new electronics. Some just rebuild and sell, others advertise more heavily. Hence the difference in the price.
I suggest buying from an authorized rebuilder for as low as you can find.

They are all rebuilt to BOSCH requirments and have the same warranty. Don't kid yourself into thinking one is really superior to the 1050 dollar unit. The difference is markup and someone has to pay for the advertising. The less expensive unit has as good a chance making it to 300000 miles as a 1600 dollar unit. The hot rod pumps are not what the average owner wants to deal with. Stay away from the China and CHEZ pumps. We know about China quality and remember the Yugo.
Never let the LP pressure go away will help considerablly.
JMHO of course.

Well I ordered one last week. I was happy because shipping was free....... Well until UPS showed up this morning with it.
It was damaged in shipping. The box is all distorted, but not open... By the time I got it open UPS was gone and I am left holding an injector pump with broken electrical connectors, and who knows what else.
Just called and left a message for the supplier.
Looks like another week of driving the Roadrunner to work. Talk about a white knuckle ride in Houston rush hour.
