Why is a '98 12v quadcab the "holy grail"?

Hi all,

I keep reading about how 12v '98 quadcab trucks, particularly 5 speeds, are supposedly so hard to find and desireable. Why is this? Not only do I have one (a 2wd dually 5 spd), but I found another near me while looking. It's a 4wd 5 spd dually quadcab 12v. Was finding two of them highly unusual? By the way, the 4wd MIGHT still be for sale. The guy was asking $7500 for it.

It is considered rare because it is the first year of the quad cab option and the last year of the 12v.....considering that the 12v was dropped half way through the 98 model year in favour of the 24v, makes production numbers comparatively low......so, for these reasons it is thought of as being rare compared to other models and of course, desirable.

also lots of people like the 12v's over the 24v's and the 98's were among the best.

the 98 12V QC SBs were only made for 3-4 months and they are somewhat rare. I seen 4 in four years of looking.

Plus, even some 24V trucks didn't have the quad cab option!

Only during those few months could you get this combo:

1-quad cab
2-12 valve
3-215 hp p7100 pump (with 5 speed only)

Though the 215 pump was offered from 96-98.4 on manual trannied trucks, you could only get the quad cab in 98. Soooo, a '98 12 valve 5 speed 4x4 quad cab dually is the biggest baddest factory built Dodge/Cummins (excluding all over-valved trucks, for the moment )

It is so cool to have a limited production vehicle that really isn't a "limited production" vehicle. I have a 1998 12valve, 5 speed, Quad Cab, Short Bed, 4x4 you can't have that in a 1999 or in a 1997. Plus like said before to have this set up you have to get it out of the first few months of the run. I feel lucky

I saw one last week parked in front of a dealership. Thought it was for sale, so I turned around, and it turns out it was the asphalt mans.

The club cab remained an option until the first half of the 2000 model year.....as of 2000.5 model year, the club cab was dropped from production but for 3 model years the club cab and the quad cab were offered at the same time.......though, the club cab is rare after 97 because it became much less favoured as a result of the quad cab option so production numbers were quite low.

They were only made for a couple of months. Then factor in being a 5spd, then being a QC, then having a short bed, then being 4x4. I still cant believe ive got mine after 1.75 years. I love er

I believe the "holy grail" is a 1998 ram 2500 4x4 quad cab short bed 12 valve with leather and then the 5 speed or auto can be argued depending on your application..... Now for the reason why it is so rare:i dont have the exact break downs that i would like to but out of all diesel rams ever built there were only approx 40,000 12 valves made in 1998 which is already a small number then out of all of the 40,000 take away the reg cabs and club cabs because they are basically the same from 96-98 except interior changes..... i would say u are already down to 20,000ish then take away all of the 2wd and 3500 and long beds now u have a really small number then u figure the leather trucks in 98 were scarce 14 years ago so now after some have been wrecked or flooded or whatever there are very very few left. i have only seen one in the last several years that i have payed attention
