Who's cummins crewcab is this...???

Found this on E-bay today. Does it belong to one of our DTR members? Thiss...guess here's another one for your list.

Were not supposed to link E-bay to this site so here's the auction number....250863572573 Just copy and paste the number in the search field and it will come up.

But here's the text....

Here we have a 1985 Dodge 350 crew cab with a cummins diesel. The truck has an 8 inch lift kit and can fit 40 inch tires. The cummins, core support, fuel tank, dash, wiring harness, seats and console are out of a 93 dodge pickup. The transmission is a build 47RH out of a 96 dodge with a billet torque converter and the thicker adapter plate to make it work. Transmission hard line has a leak but its minor and it shifts fine. The transfer case is a NP205 that works but doesn't have the shift linkage. The front original drive shaft was stretched 8 inches to work with the larger transmission and lift. The mid shaft to the rear wheels was shortened to make up the difference. Truck has Dana 60's front and rear with 4:10 gears. New stainless brake lines to the axles and to the knuckles in the front. The diesel has160,000 miles on it and runs fine. Truck is in primer to protect it from the elements of south MS. Underside is completely sprayed in flat black and the floor of the cab is Herculined to protect from rust. Truck has ZERO rust in it and the panels are straight as can be. The only panels not original are the hood and tailgate. I have all the glass and gaskets minus a windshield to put it together. Only have the rear door panels and don't have carpet. Truck is originally a military truck and the original odometer showed only 9000 miles. Truck sells as is. Tires and wheels in the picture do not go with it.

IIRC, you aren't supposed to link to Evil Bay or Craigy's sites because it conflicts with the vendors on here who sell trucks, whoever they may be?

Sad, got to the final stages and must of had to back out. When i was working on mine I was in perpetual fear my wife was going to throw me out and, and thus I would not need the crew. LOL, Only kidding.

X2. Primer does NOT protect metal from the elements unless it's damp proof primer. The military rarely ever gets rid of a truck with 9000 miles. Heck, the military tugs rack up more miles than that at 9 - 12 MPH.

Agreed, on a lot of work, and the most expensive part at that; paint! However, if you shipped it off for paint there would be about of a week of r and r for the individual and then it would be done. Of course there is no telling how many weeks, months, years, a body shop might hold on to it.

i just bought my crew cab from his brother in pascagoula, ms. and this truck was there. i looked it over pretty good and it is everthing the guy says and more. it's inside a garage and is not exposed to the weather. the frame still has the original dodge paint from one end to another. it is one of the nicest trucks i have ever seen.

i am not affiliated with the seller or his brother but the cab i bought was exactly what was listed on craigslist. no more, no less.

i didnt get to speak to the guy that owns this truck but his bother did tell me he passed on 6k. these guys are first gen guys with parts and trucks like the rest of us. they seem to know a lot about the trucks and know what the stuff is worth. i was very impressed with the overall condition of this truck and while it will be quite a bit of work to finish it is a very nice piece.

Don't forget about all the small things that make it a true finished truck.
It is a big truck to paint. Dana 60s rear?
What is the front pinion angle with a 8 inch lift and what does it steer like with that lift.
Do you need to twist the ends to bring it back to norm..
It is a very good start for some one. And you can't go wrong with rust free.
I would think you would need to blow the thing back apart to paint it.

Don't you think he has $6 k in parts alone in the truck.
Or do they give them away in you neck of the woods.
I live in the rust belt and rust free is everything.
New trucks are not selling used ones are and not cheep.
Friend has a new truck dealership and can't keep used truck on the lot sells all of them as soon as they come in.
$50k For a nice new one.

It's hard to say how much money a person gets tied up in a project. I live in PA and bough a crew cab at the Tampa Florida auto auction. It LOOKED PERFECT in the pictures. It sold for $1300. With dealers fees, auction fees, taxes, transfer, transportation from two sources (FL - WV; then WV to PA) I ended up with a rust disaster that cost a tad under $3000 by the time it was setting in my driveway. BTW, the the odometer showed 20,000 miles and the frame loaded with white FL sand was still black and shined. This ended up as my crew cab frame source that I had sand blasted and converted from 2wd to 4WD.

When I started shopping for parts for my project in 2005 a good condition rust free crew cab could be found for $1000 - 2000 on gov liquidation. A running Dodge Cummins donor truck could be found locally for less than $2000. I figured I'd have around $6000 plus labor when i was done. I did a fast total last week on where I'm at and I doubled that number and it's still setting around in pieces!

I guess it all depend's on what you want to do to the truck as to how much you are going to sink into it .
Right now I have less then 2 grand in both my crewcab and my 93 donor as I go I am selling stuff I don't need and useing that to buy part's that I do need I will have less then 5 grand into the finished truck when I am done but I have also worked it where paint is going to cost me 400. 00 it's called I help you you help me .As for rust free truck's West coast is full of them in fact on my last trip I came across 4 more up in Utah asking price on 1 of the truck's was 2500 but I am sure it could be had for less . my last crewcab I had in the family for well over 23 yr's this next truck will never leave it's going to be my play toy .

Well I paid $6K for my crewcab, it is 100% rust free, a was mostly complete and I was able to drive it home. But then I had to catch up on the neglect and lack of maintenance. That took me almost another 6 months and another $2-3K.

It's still no where near where I want it to be, but it runs and drives and I love it to death!!

Johnny5 recently sold his Cummins crewcab here locally...I believe he got $15K for it.
