White Smoke???

I just took a 200 mile trip hauling about 1000 pounds of boat anchors so a light load and about half way into the trip the truck starts blowing out white smoke and the engine light comes which this is the 4 four time it as come on in the past year. I pull over and call my dealer and they ask me was I driving over 55mph or over and not using the cruise while driving this way for at least 30mins I say yeah so they intern say it is the computer burning more fuel to heat up the exhaust to clean out the DPF. I ask them do I need to tow it in the say no so I finish the trip and came home on Friday so today I toke it in. Well I noticed when I got home Friday that the inside of the exhaust tip is a almost white with a slight yellowish tent to it.
So my question is what is white smoke mean and has anyone ever heard burning more fuel to clean the DPF out.

Yes, they do burn more fuel to clean out the DPF - part of the "regen" process.
White smoke can also be water getting into the cylinders. It can also be that your EGR cooler failed (my brothers Ford just did this).

Well they were "correct" in saying that there is more fuel added when the regen event takes place.....however you should NOT see smoke. How is your coolant level? EGR cooler is a good place to start looking if it's low.

Got the truck back from the dealer. picked it up after the service dept was closed so I didn't get to talk to anyone about what the did.

But here is some pics of what the did that I can see.
the two wires look new with no signs of dirt I'm assuming they add those or just replaced them??

I guess this helps heat it so it can burn off the soot build up????
Looks like they are just doing these type of repairs to get it to the warranty cut off then they will charge me to fix it right. That's saying there is a way to fix right beside cutting off the dpf.
FYI this is the fifth time I have taken it in.

Upon seeing your pictures that's exactly what was done to my truck last year. I think it's a valid fix because after having this done, plus a few other things, I've had no more CEL's and the truck has been running pretty good. The idea of the wrap around the O2 sensor is to keep it at a higher temp and thus minimize sooting. It seems to work.

Ouch! That looks like an overpriced Band-Aid with a cheap pacemaker attached to it. I'm glad I got rid of my '08 and kept my '05.

I hope they get it fixed right for you.

Was 50 miles from home dealer and dodge told me they not give a ride or rent a car unless I was a 100 miles from my home. Finally got a ride.
Had the truck full of my softball teams equipment was late to the game girls didn't have equipment just a bad day. So the truck is 70 miles from the dealer that worked on it last week.

Did they determine what the problem was? I know with mine (deletes are back on, eja back on too) ill get a white puff of smoke every once in a while. By this I mean maybe every other month or so. This is usually accompanied by a huge rise in EGTs. I think this is because I dont have the egr delete yet, its just unplugged, and I believe that the butterfly valve is partially closing. I just plug it back in and run for a while and then unplug it and problems gone. I do plan on doing the full egr and cooler delete soon. I know this is probably unrelated to your problem, just thought I would share. I am curious to know exactly what is going on with your rig. Keep us informed.

It's too bad they don't appear to have a diesel tech that is up to date on the many repair procedures now available. There are a number of GOOD tsb's outlining 99% of the issues with the 6.7. I've had great success with a number of problem children 6.7's by following these guidelines. Chrysler has also been very pro-active on correcting these issues. Pretty much up to the dealers and techs to become involved with the offered training.

My brothers did the same thing this morning (his is an '09 with less than a 1K on it) while he was delivering bulls to a customer.
My dad called me to let me know - this is their very first Dodge - been running Fords on the Ranch, slowly I influenced them to try a Dodge.....oops!
I did tell Dad to get his fuel tanks checked - the Ford they traded in on it started blowing white smoke a month ago - but that checked out as a packed EGR cooler.
